2023 Application Guide for International Undergraduate Students of HUST

Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is a top-ranking and national key university under the administration of the Ministry of Education, P. R. China. HUST is one of the first universities approved under the national "Double First-Class" Initiative and ranks among the top 10 universities in China. According to the latest 2022 US NEWS and TIMES Best Global Universities Ranking, HUST ranks top 200 in the global university ranking. According to 2022 Shanghai Ranking, HUST achieves top 100 ranking in the world for the first time, ranking 96^th.

After 70-year development, HUST currently has 10 disciplines, including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, medicine, management, and art. English Taught Undergraduate Programs

        Eligibility and Requirements

1.Graduating high school students or obtained a senior high school diploma, physically and mentally healthy foreigners.

2. According to the regulations released by Ministry of Education, China, if parent(s) was (were) a Chinese citizen settling in a foreign country at the time applicants were born, applicants must have obtained their current foreign citizenship before April 30, 2019. In addition, the applicant must have lived outside China for at least 2 years during the period between April 30, 2019 and April 30, 2023 (The actual residence in a foreign country for 9 months in a year can be counted as one year, subject to the entry and exit signatures). This requirement shall also be met by those who apply for undergraduate study as international students after immigrating from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and obtaining foreign nationality.

        Documents for Application

1. Photocopy of valid ordinary passport (expiry date should be after October 31, 2023).

2. Applicants currently residing in China must provide a copy of the page containing a valid visa or residence permit.

3. Applicants in the category of “Eligibility and Requirements 2” must provide:

(1) copies of all passports he/she used to have.

(2) all copies of visa or residence permit relevant to stay in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan.

4. High school diploma or proof of impending graduation (for applicants in their final year of study).

5. High school transcripts.

6. Physical  Examination Form

7. Certificate of Non-criminal Record.

8. Financial Certification/Bank Statement(5,000 USD or above).

9. Personal Statement: Introduce yourself in details, explain your understanding of China, the reasons and your expectations for studying at HUST.

10. Personal Introduction Video: Please record and submit a video in English or Chinese within 60 seconds.

11. Language Proficiency:

• English Medium:

TOEFL 80 or above;

IELTS 5.5 or above;

other certificates of the same proficiency level which are accepted by HUST;

The previous degree education was instructed in English or mother tongue is English, the English proficiency certificate can be exempted after confirmation.

12. Other supporting materials that can prove learning ability and comprehensive quality, such as award certificates, scientific and technological achievements, published papers, participation in activities, etc. 5 or more personal art works are required to apply for architecture or design related majors.

13. Applicants who are under the age of 18 by September 1, 2023 should submit the power of attorney of guardian and the letter of guarantee of guardians in China.

*The above materials shall be provided in Chinese or English. For other languages, please provide official notarized translations.

            Fee Structure

1. Accommodation:

Single Room: 1,200 RMB/month

Double Room: 700 RMB/month/person

Facilities: Washing room, water heater, air conditioner, furniture.

- Water, electricity and internet are charged by the Room Service Center separately.

2. Text books: 600RMB/year

3. Living expense: 800---2000RMB/ month

4. Residence Permit: 400 RMB/ year

5. Physical examination: 500 RMB (at most)

6. Insurance: 800 CNY/year.

         Application Period:

October 20, 2022 to June 30, 2023.

          HUST President Scholarship (for fresh man)

Reward amount: 2000-5000 CNY (one-time);

Reward group: self funded international students (undergraduates) with excellent high school performance and excellent comprehensive quality;

Issuing time: the first semester (the specific time will be notified after registration);

Selection method: The university will conduct a comprehensive evaluation and selection according to the application materials of international students.
