On the occasion of Mid-Autumn Festival, the College of International Education, Shandong First Medical University  organized an activity of "Mid-Autumn Festival in the eyes of foreign students". International students came to the community to make moon cakes and taste moon cakes with the community residents, to experience the "taste of China" and the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival culture.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for family reunion and mooncakes are an essential food for the reunion. After receiving the dough for making moon cakes, the professional pastry chef taught everyone the steps of making moon cakes. There are many types of moon cakes in the market, the more common ones are Soviet-style moon cakes and Cantonese-style moon cakes. The Cantonese-style moon cakes are heavy in oil, thin in skin and full of filling, the five-kernel moon cakes are its representative; the Soviet-style moon cakes should be called "crispy", the layers of crispy skin is the essence of crispy moon cakes. The international students also learned about the moon and the beautiful legend of Mid-Autumn Festival.

After the master explained, everyone started to do it by themselves, discussing the practice with each other while skillfully kneading the dough and wrapping the sinkers. Soon, a round moon cake was born in everyone's hands. Although they could not understand the explanation of the mooncake chef, they did it in a good way. Then, the staff brought the finished mooncakes to the bakery oven for baking, and in a short time, the mooncakes came out of the oven. Everyone was happy to taste the mooncakes they had made.

Through this activity, international students not only experienced the difficulty of making moon cakes and better understood the meaning of Mid-Autumn Festival, but also experienced more real, vivid and interesting Chinese life and Chinese stories. The College of International Education has been on the way to spread Chinese voice and promote Chinese culture. The event was co-organized by Taian Daily, the Office of the People's Government (Municipal Foreign Affairs Office) and the College of International Education of Shandong First Medical University .
