Notice on Updating China Visa Policy(Updated on August 23 2022)


In light of changes of the global pandemic landscape, to further facilitate necessary cross-border travels, the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe will adjust the visa policy for foreign nationals travelling to China starting from August 24 as follows:

I.Scope of Service

1.Foreign nationals who will engage in diplomatic, official, crew acitivities in China or meet the conditions of courtesy visa.

2.Long-term international students (more than 180 days) receiving academic education in China and their accompanying or visiting family members.

3.Foreign nationals and accompanying family members going to China for business reopening in all fields, family members including: spouse, parents, children under 18 years of age, parents of spouse;

4.The family members of Chinese citizens and foreigners with Chinese permanent residence permit for family visiting or reunion relatives.

"Family members" refers to: spouses, parents, spouse’s parents, children, spouses of children, siblings, grandparents and grandchildren.

5.Foreign nationals going to China for attending a funeral or visiting family members with critical disease.


II.Application Procedure

1.Visa applicants are required to log on http://cova.cs.mfa.gov.cn and fill in the visa application form online. After completing the form and making an appointment through the official website (http://avas.cs.mfa.gov.cn), applicants are required to submit passports and other required documents to the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe with the printed complete application form and signed Confirmation of Online Visa Application as per scheduled appointment.

2.According to the MOU between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe on Mutual Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports, citizens of the Republic of Zimbabwe holding valid diplomatic or service passports of the Republic of Zimbabwe shall be exempted from the visa requirement for entry into, exit from or transit through the territory of the People’s Republic of China.?However, the aforesaid citizens who intend to stay longer than sixty (60) days in China, shall go through necessary registration procedures, in accordance with the relevant regulations of the competent authorities of the People’s Republic of China.


III.Relevant Instructions

1.Please prepare the supporting documents as follows:

- Original passport valid for at least 6 months, with 2 or more blank visa pages, and the photocopy of relevant pages of the passport.

- Fully completed Visa Application Form with one recently- taken color photo (bare head, full face, size: 48mm×33mm) against a light background attached, and Confirmation of Online Visa Application Form.

- COVID-19 vaccination Certificate.

Foreign nationals should be vaccinated before entering China with COVID-19 vaccines approved for emergency use or licensed by Chinese government or WHO.

- Applicants other than Zimbabweans must provide the original and photocopy of the permanent residence permit or other temporary residence permits valid for over 6 months beyond the date of your intended date of arriving in China.

- Chinese origins that have obtained Zimbabwean citizenship, when applying for a Chinese visa for the first time should provide previous Chinese passport and a photocopy of its photo page. Applicants applying for a Chinese visa with a renewed Zimbabwean passport that does not contain any previous Chinese visa, should present the photocopy of the previous passport's data page and the previous Chinese visa page. (If the name on the current passport differs from that on the previous one, you must provide an official document of name change.)

2.Long-term international students receiving academic education in China can apply for student visa(X1 visa)by submitting the form of Visa Application for Study in China (JW201 or JW202) and the school admission notice (Newly Enrolled) or no objection to returning China certificate (Returning Students).?

3.Foreign nationals going to China for employment should provide the Notification Letter of Foreigner’s Work Permit in the People's Republic of China. The official Invitation letter is not needed.

4.Foreign nationals going to China for attending a funeral or visiting family members with critical disease shall provide death certificate or relevant medical report.

5.Foreign nationals with valid APEC Business Travel Cards or foreign students holding valid Chinese residence permits for study are allowed to enter China with no need to apply for new visas from 0 a.m., 24 August 2022.


IV.Processing Time

The processing time is usually 3 working days, and it will be differ from the case in the respect of supplementing materials, verifying the applicant’s individual circumstances, force majeure and other reasons.
