Geography and Climate

Guilin is considered to be the pearl of China’s thriving tourist industry and is recognized as a must when you travel to China. Located in the northeast of Guangxi Zuang Autonomous Region, Guilin is famous for its natural beauty and historic treasures. There are many ethnic minorities inhabit in Guilin that include Zhuang, Yao, Hui, Miao, Maonan and Dong which enrich the cultural life in the city. It belongs to the subtropical monsoon climate zone where four seasons are distinct with the annual average temperature accounts for 18.9 centi-degrees while the even precipitation is 1,949 mm. At present, the urban area of the city covers about 27,800 square kilometers with the population of 5 million.

History and Tourism

Guilin is an important cultural and historical city with a history dated back more than 2,000 years. After the establishment of Qin dynasty, first feudal dynasty in China’s history, the Qing Shi Huang set a county in the region and gave the name of Guilin and that is the origin of its name. The city has been the political, economic and cultural center of Guangxi since Song dynasty. The other famous relic left from ancient time is the Tomb of Price Jingjiang from Ming Dynasty by which the prosperity of the city can be recalled.

As an ethnical autonomous region, Guilin is abundant of minority who has its own unique customs and festivals. These ethnics have enriched the culture life of Guilin and make the city a destination for tourists to experience exotic pageants.

Besides cultural attractions, the stunning landscape in which the city is situated has a kind of magic that is all its own. The strangely shaped hills, or karsts, with the verdant vegetation raging from bamboo to conifers together with brilliant caves make Guilin such a paradise. The local bureau has constructed well-developed transportation system and numerous luxury hotels to improve the tourist industry.
