My Impressive Story at HUST

Hi to everyone!

I am a Doctoral student majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the College of Life Science and Technology (CLST). I had the privilege to join Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) since my master's curriculum in 2017 and then my PhD in 2019 for the following reasons: HUST is among the top 10 universities in China, No. 1 in Wuhan, and among the top 200 universities in the world since 2017, and is currently among the top 150 universities in the world. Also, HUST has a tremendous academic and administrative structure and a good research environment with high-quality equipment and labs. During my two-year master's course, I learned about the university rules by referring to the handbook and the research direction in 3Bio Lab led by my supervisor, Professor Guang Yang.

My work at the master's level has helped me with my research at the PhD level, especially in terms of expanding my work areas and making friends with Chinese students from other labs. Additionally, my supervisor helped me connect with several laboratories. During my laboratory experiments, I had access to three labs at my School and two laboratories outside of HUST, namely at Tongji Medical College and the Hubei Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, where I conducted my animal experiments; thus, my work was completed in the required time. Following the advice of my supervisor, I have achieved these exceptional results during my PhD curriculum, including 8 articles published as first author (6 articles A/Q1, 1 article B/Q2, and 1 book chapter), 7 articles published as co-author, 2 HUST Academic Excellent Awards with Honorary Certificates in 2021 and 2022, 1 honorary international graduate award in 2023, and 4 international conferences, including in Dubai, Rome, Las Vegas, and Wuhan with certificates of recognition. I was also awarded the best poster research presentation at the School of Life Science and Technology. And all my published papers were cited 190 times during my PhD studies. Recently, I have been selected for the "International Research Awards on Network Science and Graph Analytics" under the Best Researcher Award" category.

Since my first day at HUST, I've known my decision was one of the best I've ever made. The HUST offers quality education and valuable support for international students. I have now concluded my studies at HUST, and thus my deepest thanks go to Professor Guang Yang, my research supervisor, for her acceptance, advice, and support throughout the process. It was a great six years from the master's to the PhD curriculum, during which I significantly improved. I warmly thank all my 3BIO colleagues for their collaboration and support during this research period; it could not have gone so well without you all. Special thanks are also extended to HUST's administrative and scientific staff, particularly the CLST and International Student Office (ISO), for solving students' academic and administrative problems. Furthermore, this acknowledgement would be empty without thanking my country (the Government of the D.R. Congo) and the Chinese Government Scholarship for funding my education in China. Finally, I'd also like to thank my wife, son, and two daughters, born in China, for their love and support. This achievement is dedicated to all of you. Thank you very much.

Graduation Message

1. The most important thing is to identify the research that you are enthusiastic about and pursue it; it's much easier doing something you like. Always identify objectives before acting. Avoid doing everything at once. Schedule it properly.

2. Don't miss out on anything while you're at HUST; take advantage of every opportunity.

3. Listen attentively and ask the supervisor as many questions as possible. The supervisor will assist you in advancing your goals." It's better to be ignorant for five minutes than throughout your life; thus, don't be afraid to ask questions. Communicate with your supervisor.

4. It is essential to participate in extracurricular activities but avoid being overwhelmed or wrapped up in procrastination. Stay organized.
