HUST-Supported China-Brazil Cultural Exhibition Arrives at Brazilian University

A cultural exhibition exploring the history of Chinese tea and Brazilian coffee has arrived at São Paulo State University (UNESP), bringing a new opportunity for cultural exchange between China and Brazil.
Themed “The Flavor Crossing Mountains and Seas: The Tea Route and the Coffee Journey”, the exhibition opened at the university’s Assis Campus on September 10, 2026. It is one of the key people-to-people exchange projects of the 2026 China-Brazil Cultural Year.
The exhibition is jointly organised by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Brazil, the Federal University of Minas Gerais and Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), with the Alliance of Confucius Institutes in Brazil as the organiser.
Chinese Tea and Brazilian Coffee
The exhibition uses tea and coffee as a way to introduce the historical and cultural connections between China and Brazil.
Through photographs, exhibition panels and physical displays, visitors can explore the development of the Chinese tea route and the Brazilian coffee journey, as well as the cultural values associated with the two products.
During the exhibition, Brazilian students also took part in activities introducing Chinese culture, including learning to write the Chinese character “茶” (tea). These activities provided an opportunity for students to engage directly with Chinese language and culture.
From the First Exhibition to São Paulo
The exhibition first opened in April 2026 in Belo Horizonte, the capital of Brazil’s Minas Gerais state. It then moved to São Paulo State University’s Assis Campus as its second stop.
The programme is scheduled to continue travelling through Brazil, with different Confucius Institutes hosting the exhibition at locations across the country. The tour is expected to continue until June 2027.
The Assis Campus also has an active connection with Chinese language education. In August 2026, a Chinese language and culture undergraduate programme jointly established by Hubei University and São Paulo State University began at the campus. This programme is separate from HUST’s role in the exhibition, but provides another example of growing educational and cultural cooperation between China and Brazil.
HUST and China-Brazil Cultural Exchange
HUST’s participation in the exhibition reflects its engagement in international academic and cultural cooperation.
By bringing the exhibition to Brazilian university campuses, the project creates opportunities for students and teachers to learn more about Chinese culture while exploring the historical links between two important products in Chinese and Brazilian society.
The continued tour across Brazil will further extend these opportunities and contribute to people-to-people exchanges between China and Brazil during the 2026 China-Brazil Cultural Year.
