29 Vietnamese Students Receive 2026 Chinese Government Scholarships

On the afternoon of 19 August 2026, a sudden rain shower brought some relief from Hanoi’s summer heat as the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam hosted a ceremony for the Vietnamese recipients of the 2026 Chinese Government Scholarship.

A total of 29 Vietnamese students were awarded the 2026 Chinese Government Scholarship, including:

• 6 undergraduate students

• 14 master’s students

• 9 doctoral students

The recipients were selected through multiple rigorous rounds, during which they demonstrated outstanding academic ability and their suitability for future study in China.

The Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) is a fully funded scholarship programme that supports international students pursuing higher education in China. For the 29 Vietnamese awardees, the scholarship marks the beginning of a new academic journey — and, for many, their first extended experience of studying and living in China.

Messages from Both Sides

According to the report, Ambassador He Wei, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Vietnam, extended his congratulations to the successful students and warmly welcomed them to study in China. He remarked:

“This admission letter is not only a testament to your relentless efforts over the years and a well‑deserved reward for the dedication of your teachers and parents, but it also carries the trust and expectations of both governments.”

The Ambassador expressed his hope that the students would study diligently, gain valuable new knowledge, experience firsthand a beautiful, friendly and developing China, and strive to promote Vietnam–China friendship.

Nguyễn Thị Thanh Minh, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department at Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training, spoke on behalf of the Vietnamese side. She noted that over the years, educational cooperation between Vietnam and China has continuously expanded in scale, fields and forms. China has always been one of the most important partners offering scholarship opportunities to Vietnamese citizens.

She emphasised:

“It is encouraging that more and more Vietnamese candidates are being accepted into prestigious Chinese and internationally recognised institutions such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Renmin University of China, and many other universities with strong teaching and research capabilities.”

She added that this outcome reflects not only the rising quality of Vietnamese applicants but also the significant potential and prospects for higher education cooperation and high‑quality human resource training between the two countries.

Student Representative: A Dream of Diplomacy

Among the awardees is Vũ Minh (born 2008), a 12th‑grade student at the Foreign Language High School, University of Languages and International Studies, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. With this scholarship, he will pursue a degree in International Politics at Renmin University of China, fulfilling his long‑held aspiration to become a diplomat.

According to the report, Vũ Minh shared:

“The scholarship provides not only practical financial support but also opens a door for us to broaden our horizons, acquire knowledge and improve ourselves. I am grateful to the Vietnamese Government for its deep concern for the development of the younger generation, and to the Chinese Government for creating a quality, multicultural educational environment where international students can exchange, learn and grow together.”

A Parent’s Perspective: Transforming Possibilities

Mr. Hoàng Văn Tuấn, a parent present at the ceremony, could not hide his emotion and pride. According to the report, he said:

“Our family are ordinary farmers and we do not have the means to support our daughter much financially. We are very fortunate that she has received this scholarship from the Chinese Government, giving her the opportunity to pursue her dreams and build a better future. We truly appreciate and are grateful for the generosity of the Chinese people and government, and we will always remember this in our hearts. We will encourage our daughter to study even harder and, upon returning, to contribute to the good relations between our two countries.”
