Q4: Can I apply for a tourist visa or other visa to enter China first and then convert it into a student visa?

Based on our experience, it is not possible to convert a tourist visa into a student visa. A few cities can accept Q1/Q2 visa to student visa under the condition that you are admitted by Chinese university, got your admission letter and jw202 and also allowed by your university.
