Why Zhejiang University?

Zhejiang University combines a strong research tradition with a wide range of undergraduate disciplines and an increasingly international learning environment. For international students, it offers both Chinese-taught programmes across a broad academic spectrum and selected English-taught options in areas including medicine, biomedical sciences, engineering and global communication.

Who Can Apply?

If you are an international student planning to pursue an undergraduate degree at Zhejiang University, you will generally need to:

• Hold a foreign passport and be a non-Chinese citizen.

• Be under 25 years old.

• Have completed high school or equivalent secondary education.

• Meet the university’s academic performance, health and conduct requirements.

Applicants with previous Chinese nationality or born abroad to Chinese parent(s) may be subject to additional nationality and overseas-residence documentation.

CSCA Requirement

CSCA (China Scholastic Competency Assessment) is a standardized academic assessment for international students applying to undergraduate programmes in China. The subjects required vary by university and programme.

For Zhejiang University undergraduate applicants, a valid CSCA score report is required from the 2026/2027 academic year onward.

For English-taught programmes, applicants must select the English-language CSCA test paper.

Chinese-taught programmes have separate CSCA subject requirements. Applicants should confirm programme-specific requirements before registering for the exam.

Programme-specific notes

Clinical Medicine
Offered at the International School of Medicine in Yiwu.

• English proficiency (non-native speakers): IELTS 6.0 (no band below 5.0) / TOEFL iBT 75 (no subsection below 15) / Cambridge C1 Advanced 170 / Duolingo 100.

• High school academic preparation: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology should each reach at least 70% of the total marks.

• Applicants with IB, A-Level or other recognised English-standardised results may qualify for an English proficiency exemption.

Biomedical Engineering
Also offered at the International School of Medicine in Yiwu. English and academic requirements are similar to Clinical Medicine.

Global Communication and Management
Offered at Zhejiang University International Business School, Haining International Campus.

• English proficiency: IELTS 6.5 / TOEFL 80 / Duolingo 120.

• A good mathematical foundation is recommended.

Biomedical Sciences — Dual Degree
Offered through the Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh Institute at Haining International Campus.

• High school Biology and Chemistry are required as compulsory subjects.

Bioinformatics — Dual Degree
Offered through the Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh Institute at Haining International Campus.

• Subject background requirements are similar to Biomedical Sciences.

Chinese-Taught Undergraduate Programmes

Most undergraduate programmes at Zhejiang University are taught in Chinese.

Applicants generally need to provide an HSK certificate. Students who completed their junior and senior secondary education in Chinese may qualify for an exemption by providing proof of Chinese-medium education.

HSK level requirements vary by programme. Applicants should check the specific level required for their intended programme.

• High school diploma or expected graduation certificate

• Complete high school transcript

• Standardised examination results (SAT, IB, GCE A-Level, ACT, STPM, UEC or AST, where applicable)
