About NWU

Northwest University (NWU) can trace its origins back to Shaanxi Imperial College and Peking Imperial College in 1902. The University received its current name in 1912, and was renamed Northwest National University in 1923. With institutions such as Peking National University, Peking National Normal University and Beiyang National Engineering College, which moved inland to Shaanxi province when the War of Resistance againstJapanbroke out in 1937, the University merged to form Xi’an National Provisional University. It was then renamed Northwest Associated University in 1938 and regained the name Northwest National University in 1939.

03 Eligibility                        

1. Be a citizen of a country other than the People's Republic of China, and be in good health;

2. Be a bachelor's degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master's programs; Be a master's degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs；

3. Language Requirement：

★For Chinese Taught Programs: HSK5(180) Certificate or above

★For English Taught Programs: TOEFL 60 or above; IELTS 5.5 or equivalent English level.

04 Application Documents                        

The applicants must fill in and provide the following materials truly and correctly on our application system in either Chinese or English.

1.Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship.

Downloaded after online application in CSC system.

2.NWU Application Form for International Students.

Automatically formed after online application in NWU system.

3.Completed Original Physical Examination Record for Foreigners.

The physical examination must cover ALL the items listed in form. The forms with incomplete records or without the suggestion and signature of the attending physician, official cross-edge stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicant are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.

4.Original Non-Criminal Record.

5.Original Highest Diploma and its Notarized Copies (Prospective diploma winners must submit official certificate from their current university/school).

6.Original transcripts in the latest study period, such as undergraduate or graduate period ones and their notarized copies.

7.Two original recommendation letters written by professors or associate professors.

8.A Study Plan or Research Proposal.

Applicants must submit a written study plan or research proposal in English or Chinese.(With a minimum of 1000 words).

9.Research Achievements.

Applicants may submit published research papers, award certificates or other documents to prove their achievement and ability in academic research if any.

10.Certificate of Language Proficiency.

English-taught programs: Transcrip of IELTS5.5 and above,TOEFL60 and above.Other language proficiency certificate is also acceptable upon approved by NWU.

Chinese-taught programs: Report of HSK5(180) points and above. Other language proficiency certificate is also acceptable upon approved by NWU.

11.Photocopy of Valid Ordinary Passport.

12.Acceptance letter of NWU Supervisor. 

NOTE:

a) In complete Applications will be rejected;

b) Notarized Chinese/English versions are required for documents with languages other than the two.

05 Application Procedure                        

1.Pay the application fee. The university will send Payment Notice for Application through system information/email to those who pass the initial review and academic review.

2.Application complete. Students should pay close attention to the application system and registered email; follow up the latest information such as pre-admission review, acceptance information, etc.

NOTE:

a) Application fee is 350RMB which is non-refundable.

b) Online application is the only way to submit the application. Hard copies are unacceptable.
