About CUP
China University of Petroleum (Beijing), formerly known as Beijing Petroleum Institute, was founded in 1953, based on the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Department of Petroleum Engineering of Tsinghua University, and brought together some teachers from Tianjin University and Peking University. The headquarters of the Beijing school is located at the southern foot of Jundu Mountain, Changping District, Beijing, covering an area of more than 700 acres; Karamay Campus is located in Karamay City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, known as the "City of Oil", covering an area of more than 7,000 acres.
Since its establishment, the school has been a leading university in the industry of national key construction. In the 60s of the last century, the school became one of the 64 key colleges and universities in the country; Since the restoration of the degree system in the 80s, it has been the first batch of universities to obtain the right to confer master's degrees; Since the 90s, it has successively entered the ranks of universities in the national "211 Project" and "Advantageous Discipline Innovation Platform" projects; In 2017, it entered the ranks of national "double first-class" construction universities. The university has always adhered to the principle of running a university rooted in China, and has made important contributions to the development of China's petroleum and petrochemical industry and the construction of an energy power. Since its establishment, the university has cultivated more than 300,000 outstanding professionals for the country, and is known as the "cradle of petroleum talents". In July 2020 and May 2023, General Secretary Xi Jinping replied to our students twice, full of deep concern for the growth of Chinese and foreign youth, reflecting the full affirmation of the school's pursuit and educational effectiveness.
Scholarship introduction
According to the "Strategic Plan of Action for Internationalization of China University of Petroleum (2013-2020)”,“China University of Petroleum Improving the Quality of Education for International Students" and "Improving the Quality of Postgraduate Education for Researchers at China University of Petroleum", the China University of Petroleum (Beijing) International Student Scholarship was set up to attract outstanding foreign students into our university, promote the quality of international students' education and constantly improve their international influence and competitiveness . China University of Petroleum (Beijing) International Student Scholarship (CUPB Scholarship) is given to excellent international students coming to study with us. The selection and evaluation of CUPB scholarship adhere to the principles of fairness, openness and merit.
Eligibility
1. The applicant must be a non-Chinese citizen, be healthy, law abiding and have no criminal record. The applicant must meet the basic requirements for admission of international students in our School, to (be eligible) study in China;
2. Language level requirements:
English-taught majors:
(1) Applicants for undergraduate programs need to provide IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 75 or above, or proof of language proficiency at the corresponding level. Applicants with strong Chinese proficiency are preferred.
(2) Applicants for graduate programs need to provide IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 80 or above, or provide proof of language proficiency at the appropriate level. Strong Chinese proficiency is an advantage;
Execptions：Applicants from countries whose official language is English and want to apply for English-taught majors do not need to provide proof of English proficiency。
Chinese-taught majors:
(1) Undergraduate programs require applicants to have a Chinese proficiency of 222 or above at HSK-4 level.
(2) The postgraduate programs require applicants to have Chinese proficiency at HSK-5 level or above.
3. The requirements for applicants’ degree and age are that applicants must:
be a high school graduate under the age of 25 when applying for the undergraduate programs.
be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for the master’s programs.
be a master’s degree holder under the age of 45 when applying for the doctoral programs.
Required materials for application
1. Scanned copies of all China visa pages and China entry and exit record pages, passport photos with white background, photo size 480x720
2. The highest academic certificate and transcript, with an average score of more than 70% (non-Chinese or English materials need to provide certified Chinese/English translations)
3. Certificate of Language Proficiency
4. Study and research plan
5. Foreigner Physical Examination Form (Health Certificate) (Laboratory report must be attached)
6. Certificate of no criminal record
7. Two recommendation letters (associate professor or above) (required for postgraduate program applications)
8. Acceptance letter from supervisor (It is recommended that applicants for master's programs have a letter of acceptance from supervisors , applicants for Ph.D programs must have a letter of acceptance from supervisors)
Important Notes
1. This scholarship is open to all majors of China University of Petroleum (Beijing);
2. Scholarship students should participate in the annual assessment on time every year. Students who do not participate in the annual assessment without any reason will be disqualified from continuing to enjoy the scholarship;
3. For applicants who have committed fraud in the selection and annual evaluation of scholarships, once verified the school has the right to cancel their eligibility for scholarship awards.

1. Log in to the online application system of China University of Petroleum
2. Submit all application materials through the application system. The university do not accept paper mailing and mailing applications;
Application deadlines：
Undergraduate degree: June 15;
Master's and Ph.D degree: May 30
