About BUCM

  Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM), founded in 1956, a prestigious university in China, has been well-known for its leading subjects traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Chinese Materia Medica. Since its inception, BUCM has been listed under the Project 211, a project designed for prioritizing development of about 100 colleges and universities and a host of key disciplines for the 21st century. Since 2011, it has been listed under the Project 985, a major decision made by CPC and the State Council on building first-class universities of the international standard at the turn of the century. Since 2017, its three disciplines have been listed under China’s “Double-First Rate” initiative (world-class universities and first-class disciplines), specifically Chinese Medicine, Integration of Chinese and Western Medicine and Chinese Materia Medica. The university now has three campuses – the Hepingjie Campus, the Wangjing Campus and the Liangxiang Campus. Boasting of distinctive characteristics and great strengths, BUCM has become an education base for the cultivation of high-level innovative TCM professionals, a model base for the reform of TCM education, a research base for the innovation in TCM knowledge and technology, a healthcare base for the prevention and management of critical conditions and rare cases, a humanity base for the dissemination of Chinese traditional culture, and an international exchange base for the introduction of TCM to the world. It has become a world-renowned TCM university integrating teaching, research and medical care. BUCM has made great contributions to the health undertakings, civilization and social advancement. BUCM is committed to establishing a future-oriented talent nurturing system based on high-level education. It has set up several teaching schools, including School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, School of Chinese Materia Medica, School of Life Sciences, School of Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Tuina, School of Management, School of Nursing, School of Humanities, School of Chinese Culture Studies, International School, School of Distance Education, School of Continuing Education, and Physical Teaching Department. BUCM has 4 school-level research institutions, namely Beijing Research Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, National Institute of TCM Constitution and Preventive Medicine, National Institute of Chinese Medicine Development and Strategy, and Institute of Encephalopathy, Beijing, China. It also has 8 affiliated hospitals for clinical teaching, to be detailed, Dongzhimen Hospital, Dongfang Hospital, Third Affiliated Hospital,Zaozhuang Hospital, Shenzhen Hospital, Fangshan Hospital, Sun Simiao Hospital and Xiamen Hospital and Guoyitang TCM Clinic. BUCM is also a sponsor of national-level academic journals like Journal of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Journal of Beijing University of ChineseMedicine (Clinical Medicine), TCM Education, and Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences (English Edition), all being important arenas for academic exchange. So far BUCM has 5,233 employees, including 1,478 full-time teachers and 346 doctoral tutors. Its teachers' team consists of renowned experts at home and abroad and middle-aged and young professors with national influence. BUCM has 32,325 registered students, including 12602 full-time students, specifically 7,536 undergraduates and junior college students, 4,504 master’s degree candidates, and 562 international students. In addition, its continuing education program has 1,864 students and its distance learning program has 17,859 students. BUCM is committed to establishing a future-oriented talent nurturing system based on high-level education. Currently, it offers 12 bachelor’s degree programs across a wide range of subjects such as Chinese Medicine, Chinese Materia Medica, Medicinal Herb Manufacturing, Pharmacology, Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Tuina, Rehabilitation Therapeutics, Public Health Management, Pharmaceutical Business Management, Information Management and Information System, Nursing, English (Medical Science, International Dissemination of TCM), and Law (Medicine and Health). BUCM is China’s first cohort of TCM universities that offer doctoral degree programs and have three post-doctoral research centers, namely Center for Chinese Medicine, Chinese Materia Medica, and Integration of Chinese and Western Medicine, all three disciplines having the doctoral degree program. It also has 42 doctoral degree programs of the specialized disciplines and 46 master’s degree programs.

 

 

Application Requirements

1.Non-Chinese citizens, holding a valid foreign passport and complying with the relevant requirements of the circular of the Ministry of Education on regulating the work of our institutions of higher learning in accepting international students (document No. 12, 2020):

According to article five of the Nationality Law of the People’s Republic of China: if both or one of the parents is a Chinese citizen who has settled in a foreign country, and the applicant has foreign nationality at birth and does not have Chinese nationality, then, the applicants who apply for undergraduate education as international students must hold a valid foreign passport or a proof of nationality before 30 April 2020, in addition to meeting the school’s other entry requirements. The applicant must also hold a record of actual residency in an overseas country for more than two years between 30 April 2020 and 30 April 2024 (Residing abroad for a minimum of 9 months within a calendar year is considered as a full year, based on entry and exit stamps.).

After residents of mainland China, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region, and Taiwan obtain foreign citizenship and seek admission as international undergraduate students at our university, they must meet all other admission criteria. Upon application, they relinquish their previous residential status in the mentioned regions and are required to hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for at least four years (until April 30, 2024). Additionally, there should be a documented history of residing in a foreign country for a minimum of two years between April 30, 2020, and April 30, 2024, with 9 months or more considered as a full year, as indicated by entry and exit stamps.

Good moral character and physical health are required, and applicants must meet the medical examination standards for obtaining a study visa or residence permit for studying in China.

Applicants with high school or above degree and excellent academic performance may apply.

5.Age requirement:

Applicants should be eighteen (18) years old or above before 31 August 2024. A guardian bond is required of applicants under the age of 18 before September 1, 2024.

→/Receive the admission letter and the Foreign Students VISA application form (JW202 form)

→ Apply for X1 VISA at the Chinese Embassy of the Student’s Country

→ Register at BUCM

Application Materials

1. Must be handed in:

(1)Beijing University of Chinese Medicine International Student Application Form for Undergraduate Admission (Please download from the official website of BUCM International School);

(2)Photocopy of passport identification page (Passports must have a validity of at least 6 months from the date of submission of the application);

(3)Full-time high school or above graduation diploma (Incipient graduates can provide an expected graduation certificate), original documents or certified copies in Chinese or English;

(4)Academic transcript of national or state high school graduation (including at least one of the following), original documents or certified copies in Chinese or English;

-Official academic transcripts of all courses from the institution where the highest academic degree was obtained (original documents or certified copies in Chinese or English);

-Transcripts of national or state high school graduation examination;

(5)Birth certificate or proof of nationality identity with at least 4 years of naturalization;

(6)Language requirements:

-Applicants whose native language is not Chinese need to provide HSK level 4 or above certificate;

(7)Video (about 3 minutes of a self-introduction video). Some students will be interviewed online;

(8)Proof of registration fee payment or a screenshot confirming successful online remittance.;

*Once the registration fee is paid, it is non-refundable. If you are not admitted or had signed up for an item not eligible for application, the registration fee will not be refunded. Applicants are advised to consult with the Admissions Office of the International School Academy for eligibility and other admission requirements before paying the application fee.

(9)The documents required for applicants under the age of 18 to submit

The Guardian's Letter of Guarantee and notarized document must be submitted, and the guardian must be an adult living in Beijing, China.

(10)Physical examination form for foreigners

Examination results must be stamped with the official seal of the hospital, valid for 6 months, .

(11)Non-criminal Certificate

Applicants are required to obtain or fill out the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine International Student Commitment for No Criminal Record at the local police station.;

(12)Evidence of financial guarantee

Applicants can provide Bank Certificate of Deposit with an amount sufficient to cover the tuition fees and living costs during the study period in China; Or signing the statement of Financial Support for International Students can be an alternative.

A bank-issued statement verifying the balance of the account, with an amount equivalent to or exceeding RMB 30,000 and deposited after October 2024. If the bank account is not in the applicant's name, proof of the relationship between the financial guarantor and the applicant must be submitted concurrently.

After being admitted, applicants are required to bring the original application materials and the health certificate (medical examination certificate) for verification when reporting to the university. In case of uncertainties regarding a medical condition that may affect admission, it is advisable to confirm with the university before submitting the application materials. If any discrepancies are discovered between the provided application materials and the actual conditions, the university reserves the right to revoke the admission qualification of the applicant.
