. Introduction to Chinese Trade Unions Silk Road Scholarship

As a dedicated project for trade union officials mainly from countries along the “Belt and Road”, the Chinese Trade Unions Silk Road Scholarship (CTUSRS) is established to develop the friendly relations between trade unions of China and other countries, enhance the friendship between the Chinese working class and other working classes worldwide, make contribution to world peace, development, cooperation, workers' rights and interests and social progress.

CTUSRS will support the scholarship winners to study Chinese Language as scholars for one year in the PRC. The All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) will provide funding for CTUSRS. CTUSRS provides a full scholarship award covering all program-related expenses including tuition waiver, accommodation, comprehensive medical insurance, stipends and one-time international round-trip air fare.

Supporting Categories: CTUSRS supports promising trade union officials with related working experience from countries along the “Belt and Road” to study Chinese Language in PRC.

Stipend: Within the scholarship duration, registered scholarship students will receive a stipend from their host university on a monthly basis. Students registering on or before the 15th of the month will receive a full stipend of that month. Those who register after the 15th of the month will receive a half stipend of that month. Graduating students will receive stipend for another half a month following the graduation date. If a registered student stays out of China for more than 15 days due to personal reasons (school holidays excluded), his/her stipend will be stopped during his/her absence from China.

Tuition: Tuition will be entirely covered by the CTUSRS program and funds will be directly allocated to the host universities.

Accommodation: CTUSRS recipients will be provided with free university dormitory and funds will be directly allocated to the host universities.

Medical Insurance: It is covered by the CTUSRS program. 

One-time International Round-trip Air Fare: The fund will be used by the ACFTU to support round trip air fares (Economy Class) of CTUSRS recipients between their home country and the city of host university. Return tickets will be provided to CTUSRS recipients only upon their completion of study.

Eligibility

Applicant of CTUSRS should meet the following criteria:

a. Citizen of a country other than the PRC, and preferably from one of the countries along the “Belt and Road”;

b. In sound physical and mental health;

c. Holder of a high school certificate as least and under the age of 45;

d. Having at least one-year work experience, and preferably have experience in the China-related affairs;

e. Not a concurrent awardee of a Chinese government scholarship.





 

. List of Application Documents

1.    Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (in Chinese or English);

2.    Notarized highest diploma. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

3.    Academic transcripts. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

4.    A Study Plan or Research Proposal (written in Chinese or English). This should be a minimum of 500 words.

5.    Valid documents of your legal guardians in China (only required for applicants under the age of 18).

6.    Foreigner Physical Examination Form, (written in English, only required for  applicants planning to stay in China for more than 6 months, can be downloaded from http://www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchina or http://www.campuschina.org); The physical examinations must cover all of the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicants are considered as invalid. Please carefully plan your physical examination schedule as the result is valid for only 6 months.

7.    A resume or CV including the educational background and working experience after high school (Upload to “Other Supporting Documents” in the CGSIS-Chinese Government Scholarship Information System).

Note: Applicants must provide authentic and valid documents according to the requests and upload clear scanned copies onto CGSIS. Failure to fulfill the requirements will negatively influence the scholarship results.





 

. Application Procedures

Step 1-Prepare the application documents according to the “List of Application Documents”.

Step 2-Visit “CSC Study in China” website and click “Scholarship Application for Students”

Step 3-“Program Category” and “Agency Number” are necessary for application through CGSIS (Chinese Government Scholarship Information System). Please choose “Type A” for “Program Category” and type in 00009” as the “Agency Number” for the CTUSRS program.

Once the correct “Program Category” and “Agency Number” are entered in the system, name of the authority will be displayed automatically on the page. Please make sure you fill in correctly, otherwise you will not be able to continue your online application or your application will not be accepted.

Step 4-Fill in the Online Application Form and Upload Supporting Documents accurately and in its entirety by following the steps listed on the left of the page.

Please follow the instructions below when filling the section of “Language Proficiency and Study Plan”:

Apply As: “General Scholar”, Preferred Teaching Language: “Chinese”,

Discipline Applying For: “Literature”, Major Applying For: “Chinese Language”,

Preferences of Institute I: “Beijing Language and Culture University” (please choose “None” for Preferences of Institute II & III, as the program will be undertaken in one university only),

Duration of Major Study: “1st September of current year to 15th July of the following year”.

Step 5-Check each part of your Application carefully before submission. Click “Submit” to submit your Application. The submitted documents will be the only reference for the applied universities to confirm the admission.

Step 6-You can make changes to your application by clicking “Withdraw and Edit” the Application on the top of the page. Make sure to submit it again by clicking “Submit” after finishing all the changes. Otherwise, the retrieved application will become invalid and your new application will not be received either. Once the application is under formal review by the CSC and universities, the applicant shall not be able to withdraw and edit it.

Step 7-You can download the completed Application Form by clicking “Print the Application Form”.

Only Chinese and English are accepted for the online application.

To ensure that the admission documents can be mailed to the candidates accurately and timely, the applicants must provide accurate, detailed and valid information within the “Current Contact Information” of CGSIS.



 


. Tips for Coming to China

1.    Visa Application

ACYLS winners should apply for a visa to study in China to the Chinese embassy or consulate-general with the original documents and photocopies of the Admission Letter, Visa Application for Study in China (JW201), Foreigner Physical Examination Form and valid ordinary passport. Those who will study in China for more than 6 months must apply for “X1” visa, and those who will study in China for less than 6 months (including 6 months) can apply for “X2” visa. Students who come to China with other types of passports, visas or without the original documents will not be able to register with the universities, nor will they be able to apply for the residence permit in China.

Visa application cost is at student’s own expense.



2.     Registration, Health Verification and Residence Permit

Registration

Scholarship students must register with the host universities before the deadline of the registration as specified in Admission Letter with the original Admission Letter, Visa Application for Study in China (JW201) and Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Those who are unable to register on time must get permission from the host institution directly. Those who fail to register without the prior consent of the institution will be considered as voluntarily giving up the scholarship and the scholarship will be automatically terminated.

Health Verification and Residence Permit

Health Verification: Scholarship students who are to stay in China for more than 6 months are requested to submit the original documents of their passport, Admission Letter, Foreigner Physical Examination Form and Blood Test Report to the local health quarantine office to have their physical examination report verified. Scholarship students who do not meet the requirements of the above authority will be required to re-take the physical examination. Those who refuse to re-take the physical examination or are diagnosed with diseases that are not permitted to stay in China according to Chinese laws and regulations will be required to leave China.

Residence Permit: Upon their arrival in China, scholarship students must apply for residence permit to the local police authority before the deadline regulated by the visa-issuing authority with their passport, Admission Letter, Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201), verified health report, and photograph that meets the image requirements of the authority.
