The school has a long history of operation. Its predecessor was Fujian Huahe University's Agricultural College, established in 1936, and Fujian Provincial Agricultural College, founded in 1940. The Agricultural College of Fujian Huahe University marked a new era in the development of agricultural and forestry education in Fujian Province. The Fujian Provincial Agricultural College was one of the earliest independent higher agricultural and forestry institutions in southern China.
