Xinjiang Medical University began to recruit overseas students in 1992and in 2001, it  began to recruit undergraduate students abroad on a large-scale. The available English-m taught MBBS is popular among international students. In fact, most of the international students came from Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Japan, Korea, Sudan, and Kazakhstan. Approximately 150 students are admitted every year.
