"Maritime Silk Road "
Guangzhou boasts a long history of foreign exchange and trade. Traced back to the Qin Dynasty, Guangzhou as port of
departure along the ' Maritime Silk Road ', took the responsibility of shipping silk, porcelain, iron, bronze, paper, gold
and silver in exchange of jewellery, spice, ivory, rhinoceros horn etc. Guangzhou has taken up the position of a paramount
commercial port worldwide since that time.
Today's Achievement
Great achievements have been made since reformation and opening with stably increasing agriculture and industry and
vibrant foreign trade. Its economy has been in sustainable growth by 14% annually, ranking third among major cities in
China in terms of comprehensive economic power. Guangzhou has come into a city of solid foundation and thriving
tertiary industry with the emphasis on the comprehensive and coordinated national economy. Guangzhou enrolled
in the World Association of Major Metropolises in 1993 and later appointed for the Board, serving as the ground
breaker in China.
