Teaching Target and Objectives
The Intensive Chinese Language Course is specially designed for the international students who will study undergraduate courses in China, and those who want to improve their Chinese proficiency in a short term. The course aims at helping the international students, within a short period of time, construct their own Chinese language system, do daily communication in Chinese and speak or discuss on a topic in Chinese by focusing on Chinese lexicology and grammar teaching. After completing one academic year's course of the course, the students' Chinese proficiency is expected to meet the requirements of entering an undergraduate course in China and reach HSK grade 6.
Curricular outline
1. Basic Chinese Language Courses,
Including: Comprehensive Chinese (grammar, conversation, and Chinese characters), Chinese Listening Comprehension, Chinese Reading and Chinese Conversation.
2. HSK Intensive Training Courses
focusing on intensive training in the aspects of Chinese listening, grammar, reading and comprehensive Chinese.
Level Placement
The course aims at students who don't have any knowledge of Chinese and enter a beginning level class.
Length of School Study
The Course lasts half a year (one semester) or one year. Each year has two semesters. Spring Semester opens in late February and Fall Semester opens in September. The exact opening date is available in Acceptance Letter. There're 36 teaching hours per week.

Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) was founded in December 1949 as the former Shanghai Russian College. It later was named the Shanghai Foreign Language Institute and became a national key university approved by the State Council in 1963. Approved by the Ministry of Education in 1994, it was officially renamed as “Shanghai International Studies University”. In the same year, it was listed as one of the first colleges and universities jointly supervised by the national Ministry of Education and the Municipality of Shanghai. In 1996, it passed the evaluation process of Project 211 directed by the Ministry of Education, and became one of the nation’s “100 key universities for the 21st Century.”
Shanghai International Studies University is a research, teaching, and multidisciplinary comprehensive university, committed to cultivating foreign language elites with “high-quality, multiple skills, international vision, spirit of innovation, and capacity of practice”. Having a long tradition of conscientious teaching and learning, SISU enjoys a very good reputation both at home and abroad.
Now, SISU has two campuses in Hongkou and Songjiang. The Hongkou campus is located in the center of Shanghai, covering 16.9 hectares with elegant surroundings. The Songjiang campus is in Shanghai's Songjiang New District, covering an area of 53.3 hectares, with a picturesque environment.
At present, SISU has a full-time enrollment of over 1,400 postgraduate students, 6,000 undergraduates, 800 college students, and 1,200 international students. There are also 25,000 other types of registered students in various programs.
SISU has a faculty with significant academic prestige and educational experience. The full-time teachers number more than 500, including more than 300 professors and associate professors as well as a group of young and middle-aged outstanding lecturers.

Each room has a private bathroom, a telephone, a TV set, internet access, etc.
Room Price
Double room: 65 RMB/person/day (70 RMB/person/day in case of less-than-three-month lodging);
Single room: 140 RMB/day.
Songjiang Campus
Introduction
A three-storey building built in 2001, is located on Songjiang Campus of SISU. Both double rooms and single rooms are available. Each room has an air-conditioner, a private bath, a telephone and a TV set.
Single room: RMB 100 per day.
