Vocation Chinese Program (session 1)

Originally found in 1951 as China Texitile University, Donghua University is under the direct administration of Ministry of Education (MOE) in China. Situated in downtown Shanghai and adjacent to HongQiao Ecnomic Development Zone, DHU has enjoyed great advantage and great reputation in the world. The English-taught BBA and BIA has gained world-known reputation. Besides, it is determined to provide a full range of support to international students. Study Duration

Chinese Classes (Compulsory)

• Time: 8:30-12:10, Mon.~Fri. (4 classes/morning, 1 class = 45 mints)
• Course Aim: improve your oral Chinese, combined with grammar analysis and topic discussion
• Levels Available: target from beginners to intermediate learners, providing several subdividing levels
• Tuition: CNY3500/session/person (Session 1 students who will continue Session 2 are entitled to the exemption of CNY200)

Chinese Cultural Experience (optional, free to participate, theme lectures + relevant field trips)

• Introduction to Shanghai and its Vicinity (Session 1 & 2): introduction of the beautiful sight spots in Shanghai and its vicinity area. The lecture and the field visit will bring you closer to the amazing lower Yangzi region.
• Chinese Cuisine (Session 1): experience the real charm of the delicious Chinese food through the introduction of 8 major regional cuisines and make yourself a great taster!
• Chinese Traditional Costume (Session 2): are the well-known Chi-pao and Tang suit the authentic Chinese traditional costumes? Find your own answer in our cultural lecture and field trip.

Chinese Cultural Workshops (optional, free to participant, quotas are limited)

• Martial Arts: experience the great Chinese national heritage. Only accept 30 participants.
• Chinese Calligraphy: discover the gem of Chinese traditional arts. Only accept 20 participants.

Teaching Activity – Shanghai in Your Eyes

• How is Shanghai in your eyes? Go to explore this dynamic city with your buddies, and share YOUR Shanghai at the completion show.
• Weekend Excursions (Optional, 2 days and CNY 800/person for each trip, available only over 10 students sign up and pay)
• Hangzhou is always considered as a paradise on earth, just like an old Chinese saying ‘In heaven there is paradise; on earth there are Suzhou and Hangzhou’. You will fall in love with the legendary West Lake and the ancient monastery Lingyin Temple, etc.
• Nanjing is the ancient capital of 6 Chinese dynasties, where you will find historic sites and stories here and there.

Application

1. Eligibility: Age between 16 and 60, healthy, hold the ordinary foreign passport and valid visa.
2. Application Fee: CNY200/session/person (Session 1 students who will continue Session 2 are entitled to the full exemption)

Note: Applicant who is not at his/her home country must submit the photocopy of the current valid visa. All the application materials and the application fee are non-returnable. Please apply before the deadline.

Admission

After ICES receives all the application materials & the application fee, the review will be initiated and the Admission Notice and International Student Guide will be issued to the accepted student in 5 days by email (abroad) or by student’s self-collection.

Accommodation

• International Student Apartments (ISAs): only Double Room D (CNY 50/day/person) & Double Room E (CNY 45/day/person) available. Accommodation fee must be paid in one lump sum at check-in. Please process check-in/check-out on the designated date.
• Internet: 24-hour’s access to Internet is available in the ISAs dorm (charge).
• Laundry: Professional laundry service and self-service laundry offered.
• Food Card: CNY50/card, including CNY16 nonrefundable management fee and CNY34 that has been toped up in advance.
• Telephone: Each dorm has a free Internal Line (calls to other ISAs rooms) and an External Line for making Shanghai local calls or international calls (201 Phone Card, IP Long Distance Phone Card is required).

Visa/Insurance

Please apply the visa and buy the insurance before entering China. (L visa is acceptable for short-term study)

Note: Students who have an insurance should deliver an attachment or a photocopy; students who don't have an insurance should buy one at school, the fee is 300 RMB/ smester.

Donghua University is one of key universities in China directly under China’s Ministry of Education. It was rename as Donghua University ( DHU ) in August 1999.  To be line with the university's rapid development, under the support of the ministry of textile industry, a new library, one of the biggest libraries in the country, was built in 1982.

The library of Donghua university consists of two parts: central library on West Yan'an Campus and branch library on Song Jiang Campus. It is a library & information center with Donghua characteristics, with a total area of over 26,025 square meters of space and more than 1,738 seats. The collections in our library amount to 1.077 million volumes, including 3,289 journals and 14,398 books in Chinese and foreign languages.

Its collection of electronic resources is growing rapidly and now includes 10 CD-ROMs and 20 online databases.  Our library provides high-quality services to over 20,000 students, faculty members, administrators, and researchers of university.  

The collection in our library focuses mainly on the fields of engineering, management, and art. The central library's collection includes Textile Engineering, Chemical Fibers, Textile Materials, Macromolecular Materials, Dyeing, Textile Machinery, and Fashion. There is also a collection of early books and periodicals of Textile and Chemical Fibers in Chinese and foreign languages. Among them, some rare ones are of great value for research work.
 
In recent years, the library has made a great progress in many ways including sharing of resources, improving service quality and efficiency, extending service time, and developing useful software. What's more, the library has improved UNIX edition of HUIWEN searching engine so that all users on local area network can use Web Browser to get records of collections and manage their account. In addition, the branch library on Song Jiang campus has been connected to the local area network of the central library successfully.

According to the characteristics of Donghua University, the library established Textile CD-ROM data base, under the support of regional network searching engine with the CD-ROM date base of the library, which offers all local users in our university free search results.

To meet the need of development of subject, Donghua library has joined the CALIS, a state key project. The library plays a role of 'textile' on the chain of china academic library & information system, and takes on some related projects, such as 'new textile data base'.

The library has built electronic consulting room and electronic-reading room. Our CD-ROM searching engine has been among the few most advanced key universities in the country.


The library of Donghua university has a young research faculty consisting of doctors, masters and bachelors.  It provides abundant reliable and up-to-date information in scientific and technological researches, esp. for textile scientific research work to all textile universities and enterprises around china.  It also serves in such fields as opening new research orientation, evaluating and appraising scientific achievements, applying for patents and so on. 

The Library of Donghua university has extensive cooperative activities with many libraries. The central library gives priority to engineering as well as textile, and the two branch libraries are characterized by engineering, management and art. The central library has made great effort to develop network system of library and digital resource, so that all users in our university can share the resources freely.
 

Liveing on Campus

Even though CIP students are not required to live on campus, but there are three International Student Apartments (ISAs), which are all renovated recently.

The dormitories are located inside the campus and within 5 minutes walking distance to the International Education Center Building, in which students have most classes.

There are six types of rooms in three categories: single room, double room and suite. Private bathroom, hot running water, bedding, furniture, A/C, telephone, TV set, fridge, and Internet Jack are equipped in each room. Public kitchen and Drinking water filter (hot & cold) are available on each floor. Professional laundry room is available on the first floor of the 3rd apartment with washing, drying & pressing service provided by skilled laundrymen. In addition, washing machines are equipped every other floor with 3 CNY per load. ISAs is safe, clean and secure. Surveillance system is equipped on each floor and only students with ICES student ID card that has been activated as the room card or persons with permissions can enter the building. In addition, Security men are in the ISAs 24/7. Two dining halls are close to the ISAs, where Chinese breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served.

Yan'An Road Campus

International Students at the West Yan’An Road campus will live in one of the three International Student Apartments. All apartments have both single and double rooms available. Each room contains a private bath, furniture, A/C, telephone, Television, refrigerator and internet. Each floor also provides washing machines and a community kitchen with electric stoves and microwave. Students can use a washing machine card to wash their own clothes or may use the charge laundry services in the Laundry Room on the First Floor of Apartment #1 instead. Washing machine cards can be purchased in the Laundry Room. A Washing Machine Card costs 30Y for 10 washes. Laundry Services charge based on the services needed. For security reasons, all international student apartments are only accessible by using your international student card. Visitors can be signed in at the entrance security desk, but are not permitted to stay overnight.

There are two dining halls on West Yan’An Road campus. They are referred to as #1 and #2. Dining Hall #1 has three floors. The first and second floors contain a variety of Chinese foods, including steamed foods, a noodle station, a bakery, a cooked-to-order station, and a hot skillet station. The third floor contains the school restaurant and the Muslim dining hall. Dining Hall #2 contains another bakery/snack stand and more Chinese foods options. All Dining Halls use an electronic card system. Your dining card can be obtained at the International Student Office #122 and more money can be added at the second floor window of Dining Hall #1. Breakfast is available from 7:00-9:00 AM, lunch from 11:00-13:30, and dinner from 16:30-21:00.

Songjiang Campus

International Students at Songjiang Campus will live in the teacher's house for the moment, each student has one separate room with bath room,furniture,A/C,telephone, Television, refrigerator and internet inside. In addition, public service facilities like washing machine, microwave, drinking water machine are provided in the same building.

Students live on Songjiang Campus have many options to have meal, two dining halls on campus with a Muslim dining place, many restaurants in Songjiang university town street which is just 5 minutes to go.
