Mechatronical Engineering

In 1940, the Communist Party of China founded the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), the country's first science and engineering university, in Yan'an, Shaanxi province. Since the founding of the New China, BIT has been one of the key universities in the country and was among the first to enter the national "211 Project" and the "985 Project", and to be designated as a "Top A World-class University". 

BIT was originally founded in Yan'an in 1940, and moved to Beijing in 1949. In 1952, it was renamed Beijing Engineering College, becoming the first defense industry university in the People's Republic of China. In 1988, the university was renamed the Beijing Institute of Technology. Today, it is affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The School of Mechanical Engineering is a well-known school nationally in China, with its comprehensive strength and international influence at the top of domestic schools and some of its research at the leading edge internationally.The school has an annual funding of more than $200 million and has established a wide range of personnel training and scientific research cooperation agreements with domestic and foreign famous automobile enterprises.Laboratories including the National Laboratory for Tank Transmission Technology, the National Engineering Laboratory for Electric Vehicles, the Laboratory for Vehicle Power Technology, the Testing Laboratory for Vehicle Emission, and the National Engineering Training Center.

The school mainly Researches areas of vehicle transmission, electronic vehicles, vehicle suspension, new concept vehicles, vehicle structure strength and vibration noise, high power diesel engine technology, engine combustion and emissions, engine superchargers, advanced machining. The research on laser micro-nano fabrication leads research in China and vehicle transmission and new concept vehicles research has reached the leading edge internationally.

The School offers bachelor programs in Mechanical Engineering and Vehicle Engineering and masters programs in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Energy & Dynamics Engineering, and Transport Engineering.During the undergraduate period, the core subjects including mechanics, mechanical engineering, computer science and technology, and control science and engineering. The discipline studies the field of vehicle products design and production, mechanical engineering machinery products, a large number of mechatronic product manufacturing processes, the applications of electronic and computer technology to achieve design automation, and the creation of the theory and methods.

During graduate period, students will systematically master in-depth expert theory from the mechanical engineering, power engineering, the engineering of thermal physics and transportation engineering fields. Moreover, students can work independently and undertake professional, technical, or management work. Graduates will leave BIT competent for teaching and scientific research work in related fields.

The school has established joint PHD programs with international partner universities including TU-Berlin, TIT, UMich, UPM, and Newcastle University, and long-term academic communication with institutes and universities, such as the University of Wisconsin–Madison, the University of Miami, UC Berkeley, Purdue University, Imperial College London, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, and the University of Tokyo.

Beijing Institute of Technology founded in Yan'an in 1940 is a national key university. It is a research-oriented university of science, engineering and humanities with science and engineering as its backbone. It is one of the first universities to be authorized to open a graduate school and was funded by the central government. BIT is also one of the national "Project 211" universities receiving preferential support from the state. In 2000, BIT was listed in "Plan 985", which gives priority for development by Commission of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense (COSTIND), Ministry of Education (MOE) and Beijing Municipal Government. In 1999, BIT passed the evaluation for "Outstanding in Undergraduate Program" sponsored by MOE. BIT ranks among the first-class universities for its high educational and research quality, strong faculty teams, and academic programs with distinct characteristics.

Beijing Institute of Technology has an enrollment of students of 37,004, including 16,411graduate and secondary students 5,179 applicants for Master and 1,904 for doctoral. In addition, it has also 347 overseas students.

The main campus of Beijing Institute of Technology occupies an area of 920,700 square meters, with a floor space of 724,000 square meters. The eastern Campus covers an area of 2,000,000 square meter.The construction area for Zhuhai 3,330,000 square meter.

Teaching
Beijing Institute of Technology has 11 academic schools and 43 research institutes (or research centers)Education program includes Undergraduate, Master, Continuous, Distant Vocational and Overseas students programs.It has 11 state key disciplines, 25 ministerial disciplines. Beijing Institute of Technology is authorized to confer doctor and master degrees. It also has 14 post-doctorate stations, 57 disciplines to confer doctor degrees, 89 disciplines master degrees. 3 Steps to Apply to a Chinese University

1. High school graduate or above who is qualifed to apply for university, non-Chinese citizens with valid foreign passport and in goodhealth; observe Chinese laws and regulations of Beijing Institute ofTechnology.
