Mechanical Engineering

In 1940, the Communist Party of China founded the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), the country's first science and engineering university, in Yan'an, Shaanxi province. Since the founding of the New China, BIT has been one of the key universities in the country and was among the first to enter the national "211 Project" and the "985 Project", and to be designated as a "Top A World-class University". 

BIT was originally founded in Yan'an in 1940, and moved to Beijing in 1949. In 1952, it was renamed Beijing Engineering College, becoming the first defense industry university in the People's Republic of China. In 1988, the university was renamed the Beijing Institute of Technology. Today, it is affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Educational Objectives: The Mechanical Engineering Program enables students to use engineering principles, tools and technologies to identify and solve engineering problems in the field of mechanical engineering. The curriculum covers the fundamental aspects of design, analysis, and manufacturing of mechanical systems. Students will have the ability to develop various mechanical products, including vehicles, energy systems, and manufacturing systems.

Students will have knowledge of contemporary techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools to model, analyze, design and realize mechanical systems, components or processes. Graduates are qualified to work in automobile, aerospace, energy, and manufacturing industries.

Beijing Institute of Technology founded in Yan'an in 1940 is a national key university. It is a research-oriented university of science, engineering and humanities with science and engineering as its backbone. It is one of the first universities to be authorized to open a graduate school and was funded by the central government. BIT is also one of the national "Project 211" universities receiving preferential support from the state. In 2000, BIT was listed in "Plan 985", which gives priority for development by Commission of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense (COSTIND), Ministry of Education (MOE) and Beijing Municipal Government. In 1999, BIT passed the evaluation for "Outstanding in Undergraduate Program" sponsored by MOE. Beijing Institute of Technology has an enrollment of students of 37,004, including 16,411graduate and secondary students 5,179 applicants for Master and 1,904 for doctoral. In addition, it has also 347 overseas students.

The main campus of Beijing Institute of Technology occupies an area of 920,700 square meters, with a floor space of 724,000 square meters. The eastern Campus covers an area of 2,000,000 square meter.The construction area for Zhuhai 3,330,000 square meter.

1. High school graduate or above who is qualified to apply for university; non-Chinese citizens with valid foreign passport and in good health; observe Chinese laws and regulations of Beijing Institute of Technology.
