ProgramAbout the Program

1.Mode of Study and Period of Study for Doctorate Education

Full-time and part-time. Generally it will take 4 years and could also be extended, but no more than 8 years.

2. Accommodations

Students can live in the students’ apartments arranged by the School of International Education, or solve accommodations by themselves.

3. Application Time for Preparatory Courses

From 1st May to 31st December, 2010.

4. Formal Admission Review

During the pre-master education, the School of International Education will achieve the follow-up application procedures for applicants before March 1, 2011. Qualification review and related matters of the admission interview will be published on the website of the Graduate Admission Office, CUPL in mid-May, 2011.

5.Interview for Formal Admission

The interview is a comprehensive assessment including professional standards and level of Chinese language.

6. Formal Admission and Entry into CUPL

  1. After the interview and the comprehensive assessment, the list of the admitted students will be published in early June, 2011.

  2. The School of International Education of CUPL will send off the Admission Letter and the visa application form in late June, 2011.

7. Date of Formal Registration in CUPL

The registration time in CUPL will be in early September 2011; for the concrete time, the students could refer to the Admission Letter. The admitted students should achieve the admission and registration procedures in School of International Education of China University of Political Science and Law in accordance with the requirements on the Admission Lette.

8. Tuition

The tuition of doctorate education for foreign students in China University of Political Science and Law in 2011 has not been determined; the instruction for the tuition will be sent to the admitted students together with the Admission Letter.

Professional application service fee: 30,000 RMB (including the related costs used for: Chinese courses, major courses, guidance to studying abroad, selection of majors and completion of relevant procedures etc.) for those who are under HSK level 6 want to directly enter into doctoral degree study without studying preparatory courses.

Note 1: The tuition of doctorate education for foreign students in China University of Political Science and Law in 2009 was 33,000 RMB per person. Note 2: The tuition must be paid by RMB.

About China University of Political Science and Law

China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) is a multi-disciplinary national “211 Project” key university, characterized by centering on law, accompanied with a variety of other disciplines such as literature, historiography, philosophy, economics, management and education. During the last half century of development, the University has educated and trained more than 200,000 students, and taken part in virtually all national legislation activities since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. It took the lead in China’s jurisprudence theoretical innovation and conceptual updating, and conducted international academic exchanges in the field of law on behalf of the nation.

At present, the University offers 17 undergraduate programs including law, reconnoiter, politics & administration, administration, international politics, public affairs administration, business administration, economics, international business, philosophy, Chinese language & literature, ideological education, sociology, applied psychology, English, German, journalism. In addition, there are 47 master's degree programs, 19 doctoral degree programs and 2 post-doctoral research stations. Among them three PhD programs are national disciplines at the first class level, namely the law, politics & administration and Marxist Theory among which the law is a national key discipline at the first class level. 10 master programs are disciplines at the first class level, namly philosophy, theoretical economics, applied economics, sociology, psychology, foreign languages and lterature, journalism, history, business administrationm and politics & administration.
The University has established international cooperation agreements with 119 world-famous universities in 33 countries and regions. Hundreds of teachers and students are sent abroad each year for academic purposes. In 2008, the China-EU School of Law (CESL) was established, which is the most comprehensive joint program in legal Education between the Chinese Government and the EU. With the development of the CESL, an elite program of cultivating internationally-oriented legal talents has taken shape in the school.

International students' education scale expands from Mandarin study, summer camp for Chinese training, pre-degree education in China, medium/long-term Chinese and law study to the education for undergraduate, dual-degree bachelor, master and doctor. MBA Class in English
Students will live in the International Students’ apartments arranged by the university, and the accomodation fee will be funded by themselves. All the admitted student will get a special scholarship provided by the university, which will be used to reduce the accommodation expenses.
Articles for daily use will be funded by students themselves. Students themselves should buy the articles for daily use after their registration in the university. The university can also help each student purchase in advance A set of articles for daily use: a quilt, a cotton quilt cover, a mat, a cotton sheet, a pillow, a plastic washbasin, a towel.

ENROLL IN CHINA

Entry Requirements

1. Applicants must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health.

2. Must come from jointly build the Belt and Road countries

3. The requirements for applicants’ degree and age are that applicants must:

- be a high school graduate and no more than 25 when applying for the undergraduate programs;

- be a bachelor’s degree holder and no more than 35 when applying for the master’s programs;

- be a master’s degree holder and no more than 40 when applying for the doctoral programs.

4. Language requirements:

Applicants to the Chinese Teaching undergraduate program are only eligible to apply if their Chinese language proficiency is at least HSK3; applicants to postgraduate program are only eligible to apply if their Chinese language proficiency is at least HSK4. Applicants to the English Teaching program are required to provide proof of English language proficiency.

5. Applicants should fulfill the admission requirements for both academic ability, language ability and other aspects required by the university.


Application Materials

1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (in Chinese or English).

2. Copy of Passport Home Page. Applicant shall submit a clear scanned copy of his/her ordinary passport with validity later than the 31st March 2026. If the validity of the current passport does not meet the requirement, please renew the passport before submitting the application.

3. Diploma and certificate of highest education (notarized photocopy). Prospective diploma winners shall submit the certificate of expected graduation or student status issued by his/her university; Those who have graduated, must submit the official diploma, i.e., the original copy of graduation certificate and degree certificate written in Chinese or English. Diploma mentioned above in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarization/legalization/Apostille accordingly (please check example in appendix 2).

4. Academic transcripts. Those who apply for undergraduate program, must submit the full transcript of high school; Those who apply for Master’s program, must submit full transcript of bachelor’s study; Those who apply for PhD’s program, must submit full transcript of bachelor’s and Master’s study. These transcripts shall be issued and sealed by the attending university’s academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department. They can be in Chinese or English, but must be attached with notarized English translations if they are in foreign languages other than English;

5. Language qualification certificates. Applicants for Chinese-taught programs must submit valid HSK reports in accordance with the corresponding Chinese proficiency requirements. Applicants for other language-taught programs shall provide relevant language proficiency certificates according to the universities’ requirements, like IELTS or TOFEL report

6. A Study Plan or Research Proposal, written in Chinese or English, minimum of 200 words for undergraduates, 1000 words for postgraduates;

7. Recommendation letters. Applicants for postgraduate programs must submit two letters of recommendation written in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors;

8. Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the valid documents of their legal guardians in China;

9. Applicants planning to stay in China for more than 6 months must submit a photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy should be kept by the applicant. The form is designed by the Chinese quarantine authority and can be obtained from the dispatching authority. The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.

10. Non-criminal record report. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.

11. Those who apply for undergraduate program, must submit birth certificate. Notarized translation is needed if the document is in foreign languages other than English or Chinese;
