Master's Program in Contemporary Development of China (in English)

Beijing Normal University enjoys a program of broad international cooperation and exchange,
having signed cooperative agreements with almost 300 universities and research institutes from more than 30 nations and districts and having cooperative programs for exchange students with over 20 universities, in places that include the United States, the UK, Japan, South Korea, and Canada. Moreover, BNU has co-established Confucius Institutes with the University of Manchester, UK, the University of Oklahoma, USA, San Francisco State University, USA, Dawson University, Canada, and Sherbrooke University, Canada. There are long-term international students at BNU from over 69 different countries and regions, 65% of whom are pursuing academic degrees.

Since the implementation of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan of China, the development objective of which is to create a comprehensive, distinctive and high-quality “World-Renowned Research-Oriented University,” Beijing Normal University has followed the developmental philosophy of “Stabilizing the Current Scale, Optimizing the Structure, Highlighting the Characteristics, and Innovating Independently” and has vigorously implemented strategies for development in teacher education, subjects , talents , scientific research, talents for strengthening the university, internationalization,, insurance of development conditions, and institution innovation. Accommodation fees: 120 RMB/person/day(standard double room)
BNU can allocate accommodation for short-term Chinese language students. The cost of this accommodation is 120 RMB/person/day (standard double room). Students who wish to stay in BNU’s international student dorms should complete the accommodation booking form and send it to the International Students Office with the application materials.

Accommodations offer hot water at least eighteen hours a day, and pay washers and dryers are available in each international student apartment building. Equipped public kitchens or canteens are available in some buildings. Computer labs, gymnasiums and cafeterias are also available in some building.

Notes:
Deposits and dorm fees for the first half-year must be paid within the first two weeks after you move in.
You are free to change accommodations among different dormitories and apartments within the first two weeks after the prescribed registration time, but if you change the room or check out after the two weeks you should pay the two-week accommodation fee as compensation.
Notice for Those Living off BNU Campus:
If you live off BNU campus, you must present to International Students Office your legal residence certificate.
If you live in a hotel, apartment or an international student building at other school, you must obtain a certification stamped by the building’s front office.

If you rent a Chinese house, you should get a completed REGISTRATION FORM OF TEMPORARY RESIDENCE with the official seal from the local police station. To get this form, you must register at the local police station within 24 hours after moving in. Bring your passport and your landlord, who must present a household registration booklet. Those without a valid certificate will be considered illegally residing in China and will receive a warning or fine.

Food
The canteen in Lanhui International Students' Apartment has seating for 200 people. The average cost per day is about RMB 20 yuan. Other canteens and restaurants on campus are also open to international students, and within walking distance of campus there are a variety of Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Western fast-food restaurants.
 

3 Steps to Apply to a Chinese University

1.  Applicant should be less than 50 years old.

2.  Applicant should gain Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

3.  Foreign students with English as a second language must be able to verify their English proficiency (e.g. having a basic degree from an institution in an English-speaking country or a certificate documenting performance on an international test: in the case of TOEFL, a score above 637points(paper-based) /263 points(internet-based) is required, and for IETLS, a score above 7.0 is required. In addition, a minimum score of 5.0 in writing part of TOEFL is required and in the same case in IETLS, the minimum score is 7.0)

With photo, passport number &expiration date and name included.

2.  Passport-sized photo
A passport-sized photo taken recently of the applicant.

3.  Bachelor's degree diploma
Graduation certificate should be in Chinese or English.If not, it should be translated into Chinese or English and be notarized.

4.   Transcript of undergraduate school

5.   Two recommendation letters(optional)
From professor,associate professor or equivalents.

6.  Certificate of English proficiency test
IELTS or TOEFl will only be required if the applicant is not a native English speaker.

7.  Personal Statement
Personal Statement with the applicant's signature, written in Chinese or in English. You can download a template or sample from here.

8.  Letter of guardian’s guarantee For applicant under 18 years of age
Letter of guarantee The guardian should write out his/her name, nationality, occupation and address (if an organization acts as the guardian, reference to the organization should be made clear).

9.  Photocopies of any published academic papers, patents, or other academic achievements
