Optical Engineering

Xi’an University of Posts and Telecommunications (XUPT) is co-designed and implemented by the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The University is located in Xi’an, a historic city in Northwest China, famous for its magnificent ancient culture.

XUPT was founded in 1950 and gradually developed into a polytechnic university focusing on engineering and the specialization of information science technology. This regimen of engineering specialization has been consummated by integrating the disciplines of engineering, management, science, economics, the humanities, law, and art.

XUPT’s academic and intellectual environment is enhanced by the natural surroundings and traditional architecture of the university’s two locations, the Old Campus at Yanta, adjacent to the Wild Goose Pagoda of the Tang Dynasty; and the New Campus at Chang’An, north of the Zhongnan Mountains. Leaders, staff, faculty, students, and visitors enjoy the serene and peaceful ambiance that adds value to any educational or research endeavor.

The University covers a total area of 247 acres, with a current full-time student enrollment of 18,000.

XUPT maintains 43 Undergraduate Degree Programs, 47 Master Degree Programs, and 5 Professional Master Degree Programs. Moreover, the school  undertakes the distinguished pursuit of “Training Qualified and Competent Engineers”, a plan initiated by the Ministry of Education.

1.Tuition Fees：

Graduate tuition fees are charged at 8000 yuan/student/year.

1200 RMB/person/year

RMB 800 register fee.

XUPT has won 40 prizes for achievements in science and technology at the state and provincial levels. In 2008 the academic thesis “40 Gb/s SDH(STM-256) Optical Fiber Telecommunication Devices and System” won the Second Grade National Prize for Science and Technology Progress; in 2009 the “Research of the Key Technologies of TD-SCDMA Base Station, Equipment Development and Industrialization” won the same prize; and in 2010 the academic thesis “HuFu TePA” was approved as an international standard by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

XUPT also established the “National Engineering Laboratory for Wireless Security", the “Shaanxi Provincial Research Center for Telecommunication ASIC Design”, the “Key Social Research Center for Information Industry Development”, the “Key Research Center of Application Specific Integrated Circuit(ASIC) Design”, the “Key Laboratory of Modern Communication Technology”, the”Software Engineering Lab”, the “Post Information Network Lab”, the “Key Laboratory of Economy System Simulation for Information Industry”, the“Shaanxi Technology Support Center of Network and Information Security”, the“Shaanxi Innovation Research Center of ITI”, the “High Performance Computing Research Center of Shaanxi Province”, and so on. These Key Labs have made significant accomplishments in social services as well as tremendous contributions to the promotion of social betterment, economic construction, and industrial development of Shaanxi Province.  

XUPT has established cooperative relationships with approximately 40 universities and academic institutions from more than 10 countries and regions, including Germany, the United States, the UK, France, Canada, South Korea, Japan, and Australia, as well as Hong Kong, SAR, and Taiwan. Further, cooperative training agreements, such as “1+2+1”, “2+2”, “4+1+2”, have been signed with a number of countries, Germany, the United States, the UK and France to name a few. These programs open opportunities and make it possible for motivated and exceptional XUPT students to study in developed countries and obtain degrees approved by both China and the foreign institution.

Living conditions on campus:

Life in the campus is very convenient with post office, mini-supermarket, barbershop, hospital land ATM. The 2 school cafeterias and dining halls provides different favored food, as Chinese food, fast food, local-featured favored food, cake product etc.

The physical education facilities are also well-equipped. There are basketball, volleyball, tennis, and football playground.

Live in the International Students Dormitory on campus:

2 persons a room. The bedrooms are equipped with 2 mattresses, desks and wardrobes.

3 Steps to Apply to a Chinese University

1. Postgraduate students（3 years）:

（1）Possess a bachelor's degree;

（2）Possess the ability understanding the lectures in English or in Chinese (HSK 4).

（3）Do good or excellent during study.

Pattern of Study

International students can choose to study in classes with Chinese students taught in Chinese, and a separated class taught in English.

1. Classes with Chinese students: The taught language is Chinese. The Chinese Proficiency should pass HSK Band 4.

2. Separated Class taught in English: If students apply for the same specialty at the same term taught in English, a separated class may be offered.

The scholarship for the first year is 10000 yuan, and for 2-4 years, it will be selected based on academic performance and achievements
