In 1940, the Communist Party of China founded the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), the country's first science and engineering university, in Yan'an, Shaanxi province. Since the founding of the New China, BIT has been one of the key universities in the country and was among the first to enter the national "211 Project" and the "985 Project", and to be designated as a "Top A World-class University".
BIT was originally founded in Yan'an in 1940, and moved to Beijing in 1949. In 1952, it was renamed Beijing Engineering College, becoming the first defense industry university in the People's Republic of China. In 1988, the university was renamed the Beijing Institute of Technology. Today, it is affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The predecessor of Beijing University of Technology is the Academy of Natural Sciences, which was born in Yan'an in 1940. It is the first special institution in the history of the CPC to carry out natural science teaching and research. Comrade Mao Zedong personally wrote the name of the school, and proletarian revolutionary Li Fuchun, proletarian revolutionary and educator Xu Teli, proletarian revolutionary, radio expert, economic expert Li Qiang, and others successively served as the main leaders of the school. In 1949, the school moved to Beijing; In 1952, it was named Beijing Institute of Technology and became the first national defense industry college in New China; In 1988, it was renamed as Beijing Institute of Technology. She is the first university of science and engineering founded by the CPC, and one of the national key universities since the founding of the People's Republic of China. She is one of the first to enter the national "211 Project" and "985 Project", and one of the first to enter the A-class list of "world-class university" construction universities, now under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

• Students who apply for Autumn semester (September intake) should have ≥ HSK 3 or equivalent Chinese language test score
