Clinical Medicine

SMU owns 5 state-level key academic disciplines and another 6 ones approved by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine; its clinical medicine as an academic discipline has been ranked as the top 1% of the worldwide universities by ESI.

Southern Medical University, the former First Military Medical University, was founded in October 1951 and notarized as one of the premier medical universities in 1978. The university was handed over to the local government of Guangdong Province and meanwhile renamed as Southern Medial University, in line with the command by the State Department and the Central Military Committee of PLA in August 2004. At present, the university has been authorized by the Department of Education as a key medical university.

3 Steps to Apply to a Chinese University

1. Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens in good physical and mental health.

2. Applicants for doctoral programs must have a master's degree and be under the age of 40, applicants for master's programs must have a bachelor degree and be under the age of 35.

3.Applicants should have good conduct, without any record of violation of school rules and regulations, nor any record of public security punishment or criminal record.

4. Applicants should have excellent grades and clear purpose of studying in China, with a GPA of 3.0 or above in the previous academic year without failing or repeated subjects.

5.  Chinese Medium Program: Applicants must reach a score above 180 in HSK 5 or provide other comparable certificates proving Chinese proficiency.

English Medium Program: Applicants from non-English-speaking countries must reach a score of 6.5 in IELTS (6.0 or above for each item) or above 90 in TOEFL (20 or above for each item)  ; or provide other comparable certificates proving English proficiency. Applicants from English-speaking countries or receiving the last degree with the instruction in English are exempt from submitting the English proficiency certificates, but the certificate of English medium issued by the school graduated from shall be provided.

1. Scanned copy of the information page of the valid passport

2 Highest academic degree certificate. Fresh graduates should submit the expected graduation certificate (original scanned copy and English translation). After being pre-admitted, fresh graduates must submit their academic degree certificates to obtain the admission qualification.

3 Transcripts of all courses in the highest academic education stage (original scanned copies and English translations)

4. Study Plan in China Written in Chinese (for those applying for programs taught in Chinese) or English (for those applying for programs taught in English); The content includes personal study and work experiences, academic research achievements, research plans during the master's or doctoral stage, further education plans, and personal development goals after graduation, etc. Master's students should have no less than 1,000 words and doctoral students no less than 1,500 words.

5 Two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors, which must be original in either Chinese or English (including signatures and contact information)

6. Pre-admission letter from the Supervisor of Southern Medical University

7. A list of published papers, abstracts, or other materials that can prove one's research ability

8. Id photo (2-inch bareheaded photo with a blue background)

9 Self-introduction video in English or Chinese (3-5 minutes, no more than 50M)

10. A scanned copy of the "Physical Examination Record for Foreigners" (please keep the original for yourself), which must be filled out in either Chinese or English.

11. Proof of language proficiency

Scanned copies of the "International Student Financial Guarantee Form" and its guarantee materials, which must be filled out in either Chinese or English, and provide a deposit certificate sufficient to cover reasonable expenses such as study, living, and international travel during their study in China (the deposit amount should be no less than 150,000 RMB). And a scanned copy of the passport or identity document of the financial guarantor (only a relative of the applicant) (to be provided by applicants for self-funded projects)

Tuition and accommodation fees are waived and allowances are provided
