SMU owns 5 state-level key academic disciplines and another 6 ones approved by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine; its clinical medicine as an academic discipline has been ranked as the top 1% of the worldwide universities by ESI.

Adopt the intensive education method, mainly language teaching, supplemented by professional knowledge teaching. Language courses mainly include general Chinese and medical Chinese, and general Chinese is taught according to the test when students enter the school. Professional courses include mathematics, chemistry, biology and so on.

Southern Medical University, the former First Military Medical University, was founded in October 1951 and notarized as one of the premier medical universities in 1978. The university was handed over to the local government of Guangdong Province and meanwhile renamed as Southern Medial University, in line with the command by the State Department and the Central Military Committee of PLA in August 2004. At present, the university has been authorized by the Department of Education as a key medical university.

3 Steps to Apply to a Chinese University

1. Do not have Chinese nationality and hold a valid foreign passport.

The applicant must have lived abroad for more than 2 years in the last 4 years (before April 30 of the year of enrollment).

2. In good physical and mental health, meet the medical examination standards for applying for a study visa or residence permit in China.

3.18-30 years old, high school graduate or above.

4. Language proficiency requirements: Applicants whose native language is not English must have IELTS academic (no less than 55, no less than 5.0 in each item), TOEFL (no less than 70 in IBT, no less than 12 in each item) or other equivalent English test results. Applicants whose native language is English or whose language of instruction is English for the entire course of study at their highest level are exempt from the English test results, but must submit a certificate of instruction in English issued by the school from which they graduated.

★ Certificates and transcripts must be official documents.
