Hohai Universityis a research university inNanjing,Chinaunder the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education ofChina. From 1958 to 2000 it was administered by the Ministry of Water Resources.
The university's main focus is the research and study of water resources, and it primarily educates engineering subjects, with coordinated development of engineering, science, economics, management, arts and law. 1. Front page of passport. If the current validity period of your passport does not meet the requirements (the validity period is later than September 2025), please promptly apply for a new passport.
2. Notarized proof of the highest educational attainment. If the applicant is a student, they must submit a projected graduation certificate or student status certificate issued by their current school.
3. Academic transcripts (starting from the undergraduate stage). The scanned copies of the transcripts should include the grades from the undergraduate, master's (if applicable), and doctoral (if applicable) study periods up to the most recent semester. The transcripts should be issued and stamped by the academic affairs office, graduate school, or relevant student management department of the institution where you are studying. Both Chinese and English transcripts can be provided. If the language is other than English, an English translation and notarization are required.
4. Language proficiency certificate. Applicants from non-English speaking countries are required to provide TOEFL or IELTS scores, or other documents that demonstrate their English proficiency.
5. Study Plan in China. This section should cover your academic background, previous study and work experience, with a particular emphasis on your research plan during your graduate studies. For a master's degree, the plan should be approximately 1,500 words, and for a doctoral degree, it should be around 3,000 words. Doctoral students must have their Chinese supervisor sign the plan. 6. Recommendation Letters. Submit two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors. The letters should be written in either Chinese or English. 7. Copy of the "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" (Keep the original for yourself. This form is uniformly printed by the Chinese Health Quarantine Department and must be filled out in English). Applicants should conduct the examination strictly in accordance with the items required in the "Foreigner Physical Examination Form". An incomplete form, one without a photo attached or without the official seal of the signature and seal of the doctor and the hospital, is invalid. 8. Certificate of No Criminal Record. Applicants are required to submit a valid certificate of no criminal record issued by the local public security authority. This certificate should generally be a document issued within the past 6 months prior to the application submission. Graduates can provide proof of their good academic performance during their studies.
9. Personal Resume. Include your continuous study history since your undergraduate years. Those who have had study experiences in China must provide a complete list of their studies.
10. All scanned copies of visa and residence permit related to China. If you have never been to China, the passport pages can be used instead.
11. Financial capability proof. One of the following documents: proof of family savings, proof of family property, proof of income from parents/guardians. It is recommended to be at least $5,000 or more.
12. List and summaries of published academic papers;

The Chinese government scholarship program implements an annual review system. The review results serve as the basis for whether to continue providing the Chinese government scholarship. After arriving in China, scholarship recipients are not allowed to change the designated university, and in principle, they are not permitted to change their study major or the duration of study.
