Hohai Universityis a research university inNanjing,Chinaunder the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education ofChina. From 1958 to 2000 it was administered by the Ministry of Water Resources.

The university's main focus is the research and study of water resources, and it primarily educates engineering subjects, with coordinated development of engineering, science, economics, management, arts and law. It is part of Project 211 (a development initiative by the Chinese government involving over 100 key universities) and has set up a graduate school.

About Hohai University

Hohai University, founded in 1915, wins its worldwide reputation for research and study of water conservancy. The history of Hohai University can be traced back to Hohai Civil Engineering School, which was established by ZhangJian, a famous industrialist and educator in China’s modern history, and it was the first institution focusing on research and education of water conservancy in China. Under the background of the nationwide reconstruction of universities in 1952, East China Technical University of Water Resources was founded on the basis of water related disciplines of Nanjing University, Tongji University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Zhejiang University, which made it famous with excellent faculty and notable achievement. It was renamed Hohai University in 1985, and Mr. Deng Xiaoping inscribed the name of the University.
Located in Nanjing, the capital city of ancient China, Hohai University includes two other beautiful campuses, Changzhou and Jiangning, taking up an area of about 1,533,333 m2. Hohai University is an ideal place to study with its beautiful scenery and tree-lined campus.

Accommodation

HHU’s International Students Dorms are scattered around Friendship mountains the dormitory or new doctoral students dormitory building in main campus, and Jiangning Campus. Currently, most of the first-year students live at main campus in Nanjing.
Accommodation fee is 600 ~ 1500 Yuan per month for living on campus. Off-campus housing is generally 1000 ~ 1500 Yuan per month. Costs will be different according to different conditions.

Entry Requirements

1. Non-Chinese citizens, in good health. Comply with Chinese laws and regulations, and respect Chinese customs and traditions. For those who were Chinese citizens originally and later acquired foreign nationality, follow the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education; 

2. Applicants for a bachelor's degree must have a high school diploma or equivalent educational qualification, and be between 18 and 30 years old. Application Materials

1. Front page of passport. If the current validity period of your passport does not meet the requirements (the validity period is later than September 2025), please promptly apply for a new passport. 

2. Notarized proof of the highest educational attainment. If the applicant is a student, they must submit a projected graduation certificate or student status certificate issued by their current school. 

3. Academic transcript. It includes all courses taken during the high school years. 

4. Language proficiency certificate. HSK 4-level or higher certificate in Chinese language proficiency test, or equivalent proof of Chinese language ability; 

5. Study Plan in China. This should include personal information, educational background, and study plan, etc. It should be written in Chinese, and the length should be around 800 words. The template download link is https://ie.hhu.edu.cn/2024/1012/c14691a289779/page.htm; 

6. Recommendation Letters. Submit two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors. The letters should be written in either Chinese or English. 7. Copy of the "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" (Keep the original for yourself. This form is uniformly printed by the Chinese Health Quarantine Department and must be filled out in English). Applicants should conduct the examination strictly in accordance with the items required in the "Foreigner Physical Examination Form". An incomplete form, one without the applicant's photo attached or without the seam seal on the photo, or one without the signatures and stamps of the physician and the hospital is invalid. 8. Certificate of No Criminal Record. Applicants are required to submit a valid certificate of no criminal record issued by the local public security authority. This certificate should generally be a document issued within the past 6 months prior to the application submission. Graduates can provide proof of their good academic performance during their studies. 

9. Personal Resume. Provide a detailed account of your continuous study experience since high school. Those who have studied in China should include all their study history. 

10. All scanned copies of visa and residence permit related to China. If you have never been to China, the passport pages can be used instead. 

11. Financial capability proof. One of the following documents: proof of family savings, proof of family property, proof of income from parents/guardians. It is recommended to be at least $5,000 or more.

Scholarship

Hohai University Scholarship 

The school implements dynamic management of scholarships. Scholarships are evaluated annually based on students' academic performance, school conduct, and overall quality. 

First Prize Scholarship: Includes tuition fees, on-campus accommodation, comprehensive medical insurance and living expenses. Applicants must hold a HSK 5 or higher certificate, and have excellent high school grades (average score of courses on a 100-point scale of 80 or above, or ranking within the top 20% of the grade). 

2. Second Prize Scholarship: Includes tuition fees and on-campus accommodation. Applicants must be proficient in Chinese and have excellent grades in high school. 

3. Third Prize Scholarship: Includes tuition fees. Applicants must be fluent in Chinese and have excellent grades in high school.
