Taiyuan University of Technology (TUT) has its history traced all the way back to the Western Learning School of Shanxi Grand Academy (1902), which was one of the three earliest national universities in China. With the tradition and development of over 100 years, TUT is now a general university with engineering as the major, sciences and technology integrated and coordinate development of multiple disciplines.  It is a university that is included in the “Project 211” --- the national higher education promotion program for 100 top universities in China. 

Taiyuan University of Technology (henceforth, TUT) is one of the three earliest state-run universities in China with a history of 110 years. It is the only one in Shanxi Province that has been nominated as one of the top 100 universities by a national higher education program—“Project 211”.

At present, more than 20,000 undergraduates, over 6,000 postgraduates and PhD candidates are working on social sciences, sciences, business and management, arts and sports at TUT. It has 70 bachelor’s degree programs, 120 master’s degree programs, 43 doctorate programs, 6 post-doctor research centers, 4 Professional Master's Degree Authorization Centers. Presently, there are 2,007 full-time teachers including over 1,354 professors and associate professors, 121 doctoral tutors and 4 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

TUT started to recruit international students from the early 1990s. International students have studied here from 21 countries covering the U.S.A., Canada, Chile, Peru, Venezuela, Australia, France, Italy, UK, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Romania, Cameroon, Zambia, South Africa, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Mongolia, Afghanistan. Apart from Chinese culture and language, international students can also study for bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctorate degree.

International students live in an 11-floor building called Building Guojiao, which started using in the year of 2011. In this building, from the first floor to the third floor is a restaurant.
Staff members are particularly assigned to take the responsibility of the security and service 24 hours a day. All the rooms are furnished and look neat and beautiful.

There is a laundry room with pre-paid washing machines and kitchens in the building for the convenience of international students.
