Foundation Programs

Founded in 1898, Peking University was originally known as the Imperial University of Peking. It was the first national university covering comprehensive disciplines in China, and has been a leading institution of higher education in China since its establishment. It also served as the highest administration for education at the beginning of its founding. And so far, there are 5000 international students from about 80 countries studying in Peking University.They are provided by many English-taught programs, including several double degree programs and programs run in cooperation with major universities around the world. Founded in 2000, the International Preparatory Education Program of Peking University (PKU) provides one to two years of training for international students who have graduated from high school and have excellent academic records and are interested in pursuing a bachelor's degree at PKU. Peking University Preparatory School is committed to creating a new pattern of all-round scientific education, and strives to provide professional language training, international cultural exchange, first-class undergraduate integration and other platforms for international students to study in Peking University. After the preparatory study, international students who pass the assessment and meet the standards can be admitted to Peking University for undergraduate studies.

The student body, faculty, and alumni of Peking University have made significant research achievements and generated an incredible number of works of scholarship in both the arts and the sciences.

With current trends of worldwide globalization demanding rapid development in the social, economic, and technological spheres of Chinese society, Peking University utilizes its traditional strengths in the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities to make further progress in engineering, applied sciences, education, and numerous other interdisciplinary fields of study, resulting in the marked improvement of Peking University’s academic disciplinary system. With these serving as the basis for projected advancement, we at Peking University hope to provide scholarly contributions to society, cultivate capable and inventive young minds, and ultimately better Chinese society both internally and on the global front.

For the international students who will study in Peking University,there are two options for your accomodation as following : 

On-Campus

A. Student rooms in Posts and Telecommunications Hotel: with air conditioner, color TV, telephone, bathroom, and room-cleaning service, about 5 minutes away from Peking University campus by foot. 58 RMB per day per bed for two- or three-room apartment with two beds in each room. 95 RMB per day for single room.
B. Student rooms in Zhongguanyuan Global Village PKU: with color TV, telephone, Internet access, air conditioner and bathroom.
Self-funded Students are required to find their own living accommodation. Please note that students who live off campus must register to the local police station.
C. Student rooms in Shaoyuan Building No. 9 (on-campus): with color TV, telephone, Internet access, air conditioner and bathroom; two persons share one room.
D. King-size rooms in Shaoyuan Building (on-campus):with color TV, telephone, refrigerator, Internet access, bathroom, and air conditioner; two persons share one room.
Notes: Due to the limited accommodation on campus, the Shaoyuan International Students Residences can only provide the house for scholarship students.

3 Steps to Apply to a Chinese University

1. applicants should be between the ages of 17 and 23, in good physical and mental health, good academic performance, in line with the relevant provisions of the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China, non-Chinese citizens with valid foreign passports, and no criminal record.

Remarks: Whether the applicant has the nationality of the People's Republic of China while having a foreign nationality is subject to the nationality determination conclusion of the Exit and Entry Administration department of the Chinese public security organ. If the applicant is found to have Chinese nationality after the application, admission and enrollment, the application qualification, admission qualification, enrollment registration qualification, study qualification or student status will be cancelled.

2. Students with a full-time high school diploma (excluding Chinese ordinary high schools) should, in principle, be trained by overseas basic education systems from primary school to high school;

1) Application Form for Admission to Peking University Preparatory Students. After successful online registration, submit and print the application form, sign it, and post a photo;

2) Original high school graduation certificate or pre-graduation certificate (study certificate), if the original is not in Chinese or English, the original notarized Chinese or English translation must be submitted;

3) Original full transcript of senior high school. If the original is not in Chinese or English, the original notarized copy with Chinese or English translation shall be submitted;

4) Personal Statement (please click to download template: Personal Statement, please fill in Chinese or English);

5) 2 letters of recommendation, one of which must be from the teacher or class teacher of the applicant's high school, and the other can be selected by the referee, no rank requirement;

6) Passport copy, must hold a regular passport valid later than July 2024;

7) Application letter of commitment (please click to download template: Letter of commitment, please fill in Chinese or English);

8) Non-mandatory materials: including but not limited to SAT/IB/A-Level/ACT transcripts, national college entrance examination transcripts, award certificates, HSK transcripts, other language proficiency certificates and other materials that are considered helpful to the application (photocopies are sufficient).
