The Long-term Chinese Language Program at Peking University is a 1 Semester long program for international students, taught in Chinese.

IntroductionIntroduction

Founded in 1898, Peking University was originally known as the Imperial University of Peking. It was the first national university covering comprehensive disciplines in China, and has been a leading institution of higher education in China since its establishment. It also served as the highest administration for education at the beginning of its founding. And so far, there are 5000 international students from about 80 countries studying in Peking University.They are provided by many English-taught programs, including several double degree programs and programs run in cooperation with major universities around the world. ProgramAbout the Program

General Curriculum A. Class hours: Monday to Friday, four hours per day, twenty hours per week, with extracurricular activities on Saturday. B. Mandarin course: 1. Mandatory courses: Intensive Reading, Spoken Chinese, Pronunciation, and Listening Comprehension & Video Course. 2. Elective courses: Students can electives from a variety of topics such as Chinese Folklore, Translation, Rhetoric, Writing, Newspaper Reading, Classical Chinese, ed Readings from Contemporary Chinese Literature, and others. All courses aim to improve the student’s the ability to use Mandarin in real-life circumstances. C. Class arrangements according to Mandarin proficiency: Instruction is divided elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels. Students are arranged according to the results of the Mandarin placement exam after registration at the beginning of the semester. Class size is approximately fifteen students per class. D. Chinese Cultural Activities 1. Shadowboxing / Tai Chi (Taijiquan), Chinese painting, Chinese calligraphy, visits to traditional Beijing residential area (hutong), etc. 2. Weekend trips to Datong and Taiyuan in Shanxi Province, Chengde in Hebei Province, Mount Tai and Qufu in Shandong Province, Inner Mongolia Province, and other historical and cultural sites. 3. Trips to Luoyang, Xi’an, Shanghai and Hangzhou.

E. Documentation: Students will receive a Peking University Student ID card upon registration, a program certificate and an official transcript upon completion of the program.

Costs & Fees Tuition (textbooks, visits to historical sites, and excursions included) Semester course 13,600 RMB Note: Students who would like to withdraw from the program should submit their request before the registration at the beginning of the semester. Upon approval, the tuition fee can be refunded according to the school regulation. 10% of the tuition fee will not be refunded to cover the administrative fees (RMB only). For requests to withdraw after registration, the tuition fee for the current semester will not be refunded.

Estimated living costs: approximately 1,200 RMB per month, medical care and personal activities excluded.

Accommodations A. Student rooms in Shaoyuan Building No. 9 (on-campus): with color TV, telephone, Internet access, air conditioner and bathroom; two persons share one room. B. King-size rooms in Shaoyuan Building (on-campus): with color TV, telephone, refrigerator, Internet access, bathroom, and air conditioner; two persons share one room. C. Student rooms in Posts and Telecommunications Hotel: with air conditioner, color TV, telephone, bathroom, and room-cleaning service, about 5 minutes away from Peking University campus by foot. D. Student rooms in Zhongguanyuan Global Village PKU: with color TV, telephone, Internet access, air conditioner and bathroom. In addition, international students are allowed to live off campus; however, they are responsible for their accommodations and are required to register at the local police station.

Accommodation

For the international students who will study in Peking University,there are two options for your accomodation as following : 

On-Campus

A. Student rooms in Posts and Telecommunications Hotel: with air conditioner, color TV, telephone, bathroom, and room-cleaning service, about 5 minutes away from Peking University campus by foot. 58 RMB per day per bed for two- or three-room apartment with two beds in each room. 95 RMB per day for single room.
B. Student rooms in Zhongguanyuan Global Village PKU: with color TV, telephone, Internet access, air conditioner and bathroom.
Self-funded Students are required to find their own living accommodation. Please note that students who live off campus must register to the local police station.

C. Student rooms in Shaoyuan Building No. 9 (on-campus): with color TV, telephone, Internet access, air conditioner and bathroom; two persons share one room.
D. King-size rooms in Shaoyuan Building (on-campus):with color TV, telephone, refrigerator, Internet access, bathroom, and air conditioner; two persons share one room.
Notes: Due to the limited accommodation on campus, the Shaoyuan International Students Residences can only provide the house for scholarship students.
