XJTLU is a fabulous International higher education institution jointly operated by Xi'an Jiaotong University, China and the University of Livepool, UK. XJTLU is situated in Suzhou, known as a UNESCO world heritage garden and a highly-developed Chinese city, just 70 kilometers west from Shanghai, a metropolitan of global attention. English serves as the sole medium of instruction for courses available to International students. Besides, all courses are based on a solid faculty foundation comprised of nearly 200 academic staff members from more than 25 countries. You can choose to learn Chinese in non-degree programs or to study economy-related majors in bachelor's degree programs. ProgramAbout the Program

There are three levels for long-term Chinese program, namely elementary, intermediate and advanced level. The length of the course is designed as one year long with 28 weeks of teaching respectively. Students will have to sit for two tests each semester: midterm and final test. The midterm test is arranged at the 7th week of each semester and the final test is on the 15th week. The final score is a combined result of regular on-class test score, midterm test score and final test score, with the proportion of 1:2:7. By doing the long-term Chinese learning program, you will get a deep insight into the Chinese language and culture, in addition to the competitive communication skills in Chinese. Our long-term program provides you with an ideal outlet to further study or research in a Chinese context. The Chinese culture taste course for intermediate and advanced Chinese is optional. The Chinese culture taste course includes: Chinese calligraphy, Chinese painting, paper-cutting; Taiji and Kongfu. 2. The optional course for intermediate and advance Chinese includes: Business Chinese, Media Chinese. Professional Teachers All of our teachers are trained and experienced and are familiar with common problems students face when learning a new language, as well as culturally competent and integrate aspects of Chinese culture and daily life into their lessons. All of our teachers have a Master degree or above in linguistics, and they are required to have rich experience in teaching Chinese to foreigners. Language & Culture Programme We offer the level of study from complete beginners through to highly advanced learners, from survival to social even professional level. Our training is interactive, "hands-on" and practical. We focus on what is relevant through stimulating activities so that you experience the language as you would in real life and the teaching will incorporate a task based approach. If you are leaving home for the first time, don't worry, we will make sure you have everything you need to feel right at home. You can choose from various hotel-style apartments around the campus, including Research Apartments, Scholar's Garden, and MBA Apartments, all within walking distance, where you can enjoy excellent hotel style services and reasonable rates.

We will book accommodation for you as soon as you have been given an unconditional offer and paid us a deposit of RMB10,000 (around USD1,500) to secure your place at the University. Where possible, we try to allocate students to their first choice. However, where this is not possible, an alternative offer will be made.

- Option A: Studio Apartment at Research Apartments


Daily rate: RMB 68 (around USD 10)
Monthly rate: RMB 2,040 (around USD 306)
With sitting room, kitchen (gas cooker, fridge and microwave oven), bathroom, shower, air-conditioning, washing machine, colour TV, telephone and Internet access.

- Option B: 2-Bedroom Apartment at Research Apartments

Daily rate: RMB 88 (around USD 13)
Monthly rate: RMB 2,640 (around USD 396)
2-bedroom apartment accommodating two persons, with sitting room, kitchen (gas cooker, fridge and microwave oven), bathroom, shower, air conditioning, washing machine, colour TV, telephone and Internet access.

- Option C: Studio Apartment at Scholar's Garden

Daily rate: RMB 55 (around USD 8)
Monthly rate: RMB 1,650 (USD 248)
With kitchen (induction cooker, fridge and microwave oven), bathroom, shower, air-conditioning, telephone, Internet access, washing machine

  Notes:

The rates above mentioned are based on a 9-month contract.
The rates quoted above do not cover utility charges, such as electricity, water, telephone, wireless access and gas. The electricity rate is RMB0.56 per KWH and water rate RMB2.8 per ton.
Before check-in, you need to pay 3-month rent in advance and 1-month rent as deposit.
We will try to satisfy your first choice. However up to now, the apartments of Option D at MBA Apartments have all been rented out. You can only choose Option A, B or C.
A new building, which is currently under construction, will be completed at the end of 2011 to accommodate overseas students specifically.
