Xi’an Shiyou University (XSYU), which is the only university in northwest China characterized by petroleum and petro-chemistry, offers Chinese language training programs, B.A. and M.A. programs to international students. There are three levels of Chinese language training: elementary, intermediate and advanced. Geology is a fundamental science that studies the composition of the Earth's materials, its internal structure, evolutionary history, and the formation process of the Earth's surface features. It is known as "the chronicle of the Earth". By observing natural phenomena such as rocks, fossils, strata, and landforms, it reveals the mysteries of the Earth's 4.6-billion-year evolution and provides scientific basis for resource exploration, environmental governance, and disaster warning. From the uplift of the Himalayas to the cause of the extinction of dinosaurs, from the formation of oil to the occurrence of earthquakes, all fall within the scope of geological research.

Brief Introduction

  Xi’an Shiyou University (XSYU) stands out as the only one characterized by its disciplines in petroleum and petro-chemistry in the northwestern part of China. Today, it operates with the joint

support of both the local provincial government and the three major oil companies in China ( CNPC, SINOPEC, and CNOOC ). It is also one of the universities selected by the provincial

government for its “12th Five-Year Plan” project of high-level university development.

The school was founded in 1951 as Northwest Oil Industry Secondary School. To meet the demands for more talents as a result of the rapid

development of China’s oil industry, in 1958, Xian Petroleum College was founded with the approval of the State Council. In 1969 (the Great

Cultural Revolution), the school was transformed into a factory. In1980, the school was resumed .In 2000, it was transformed from a school

attached to CNPC to a regular provincial one co-funded by central and local government. In 2003, the school was upgraded from college to

university, renamed as Xi’an Shiyou University (XSYU) .In 2009, Shannxi provincial government and the three major oil companies in China

signed an agreement on their joint efforts for the development of the school. In 2011, the school was included as one of the universities

selected by the provincial government for its “12th Five-Year Plan” project of high-level university development.

The City Campus of the university is located in the High & New-tech Development Zone of Xi’an, and the New Campus is in Xian Fengjing Industrial Zone , Hu county, Xian. The school

covers a total of 2207.15 mu, with a total real property worth 1670,000,000 RMB, and a total of instrument and facilities worth 281,000,000RMB. The university enrolls students from 31

provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China. Currently, there are 2300 regular postgraduates and 17,800 undergraduates. Besides, we have about 300 international

students and more than 15,000 students in Continuation Education.  
 

conditions on campus:

Life in the campus is very convenient with post office, mini-supermarket, barbershop, hospital land ATM. The 4 school cafeterias and dining halls provides different favored food, as Chinese food, fast food, local-featured favored food, cakeproduct and Muslim food. It takes you 20-30RMB each day varied according to your consumption.
The physical education facilities are also well-equipped. There are basketball, volleyball, tennis, and football playground. In the school gym, there are badminton, table tennis, fitness center and Chinese Kongfu pavilion.

Live in the international Dormitory on campus:

The 5-floor International Students Dormitory of XSYU has 25 suit-rooms and 8 single rooms.

1. 4 students are supposed to live in one suit-room, in which 2 bedrooms, 1 sitting room, and 1 washing room with shower and water closet. The bedrooms are equipped with 2 mattresses, air-conditioner, TV, 2 desks and 2 wardrobes.
2. In each floor, there is one Public Kitchen and Laundry equipped with electrometric ovens and wash machines, and one public lavatory.

Note:
1. The charge fee for accommodation does not include the personal beddings. School supplies limited electricity. Electricity fee should be paid by all the residence students in one dormitory together over limited electricity.
2. The electricity cost in the public kitchen and laundry will be paid by the university.
3. Every student should pay 500 RMB for a living deposit. It will be refund after the check of your room.

Renting an apartment out campus:

All the international students, especially new comers to Xi’an for the first time, are strongly recommended to live in the International Students Dormitory on campus. After the second semester, you can apply to live off campus and rent an apartment.

There are different residential quarters around the main campus. You may rent an apartment with two bedrooms or three bedrooms together with your classmates. It costs about 1500-2000RMB per month in variety and the fees for heating system, natural gas and electricity not included.

3 Steps to Apply to a Chinese University

1. Non-Chinese citizens, in good health. 

2. Possess a bachelor's degree or equivalent qualifications, and be under 35 years old. 

3. Applicants for courses taught in Chinese must have achieved a score of at least 180 in the New Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK Level 4). 

4. Applicants for courses taught in English must have an English proficiency score of 5.5 or above on the IELTS, 69 or above on the TOEFL, or 90 or above on the PTE, or provide proof of English instruction for their highest degree (with the school's official seal).

1. Front page of the passport. 

2. Proof of highest educational attainment. If the applicant is a student, a pre-graduation certificate or a certificate of being a student in school issued by the school where he/she is enrolled must be submitted. 

3. Academic Transcript. The scanned copy of the transcript should include the grades from the undergraduate or master's study period up to the most recent semester. If it is in a language other than Chinese or English, a Chinese or English translation and notarization must be provided as well. 

4. Recommendation Letters. Two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors, written in either Chinese or English. 

5. Study Plan in China. The study plan should be written in either Chinese or English, and it should be no less than 1000 words. 

6. Research Achievements: Published papers / Award certificates / Invention patents, etc. can serve as evidence of one's academic achievements and research capabilities.

8. Language proficiency certificates, such as HSK certificates, IELTS/TOEFL/ Duolingo test scores, or official English teaching qualification certificates. 

9. Certificate of No Criminal Record. If it is in a language other than Chinese or English, a Chinese/English translation and notarization are required. 

10. Applicants for the doctoral program should contact the intended supervisor in advance and obtain the "Acceptance Letter from the Supervisor" from the university. Xi'an "Belt and Road Initiative" Scholarship 

Including: Master's degree students receive 2,000 yuan per month, doctoral students receive 2,500 yuan per month, for a total of 10 months.
