Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), a key university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education, is one of China's oldest and most prestigious higher education institutions, enjoying a strong reputation.
Since relocating to Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, generations of XJTU members have cultivated the Westward Relocation Spirit, which is among the first batch of China's communist spirits.
Sheng Xuanhuai, a renowned industrialist and educator, founded the Shanghai-based Nanyang Mission College in 1896. In 1921, the college changed its name to Jiaotong University. Starting in 1956, faculty and students relocated to Xi'an in batches. In 1959, the Xi'an branch of Jiaotong University was officially named Xi'an Jiaotong University.
According to data released by Essential Science Indicators (ESI) in May of this year, 19 disciplines at XJTU ranked in the top 1 percent globally among academic institutions, with six disciplines ranking in the top one-thousandth. Among them, engineering ranked in the top one-ten-thousandth, making it eighth globally.
XJTU is now a comprehensive research university with 11 major disciplines: science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, humanities, law, philosophy, art, education, and inter-disciplines. The university has 34 schools, departments, and centers, nine colleges for undergraduates, and three affiliated hospitals. It also has 6,754 faculty and staff members, including 3,813 full-time teachers.
The university has 62,089 students, comprising 25,595 undergraduates, 32,565 postgraduates, and 3,929 international students from 136 countries. It offers 77 undergraduate majors, and has 43 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 45 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, seven majors authorized to confer professional doctoral degrees, and 31 majors authorized to confer professional master's degrees.
XJTU has 34 postdoctoral research stations, eight national first-level key disciplines, eight national second-level key disciplines, and three national key or nurturing disciplines.
It has built the Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbour (iHarbour) and constructed eight major platforms, 30 research institutes, and over 400 research bases and think tanks focusing on four primary areas: science, engineering, medicine, and the humanities.
The Chinese Language major (professional Code: 050102) belongs to the category of Chinese Language and Literature. It is a humanities and social science major that takes the Chinese language itself as its research object and takes into account both language application and cultural inheritance. This major focuses on the study of the systematic rules of Chinese phonetics, vocabulary, grammar, and writing, while also emphasizing the practical application of language in social communication, literary creation, and cultural dissemination. It serves as a bridge connecting traditional Chinese culture with modern language life.
Our university has two dormitory building for international students. There are four types of rooms: Single room (A), Double room (A), Single room (B), Double room (B).

Food
There are 16 main canteens in the campus, including most kinds of food in China. International students can dine at various canteens. There is a canteen on the 4th floor of international student building. It’s much convenience for international students dine there. There also have some special canteen, for example, noodle house, Muslim canteen, and food of Taiwan kind—MingJi canteen.
You need buy a meal card and charge it. The average cost for each meal is about RMB 5.

Chinese taught program: Submit Chinese proficiency certificate. Proficiency must be above HSK 4 or equivalent. (Applicants who do not meet the language requirement are allowed to take foundation courses, and enroll in the degree program after passing the relevant review and exams. English taught program: Submit English proficiency certificate. IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 80, or Duolingo English Test 110 (or above), or other equivalent English proficiency certificates recognized by our university are accepted.
ForIndustrial Design (English-taught) Program, applicants need to provide ENGLISH TOLC-I score of at least 30。
Native speakers of Chinese or English can be exempted from the corresponding language proficiency certificate after being recognized by our university.

a) Notarized original or translated copies of high school academic transcripts, including courses taken, scores achieved, and clarification of the scoring system;
b)The transcript of the unified standardized examination in the student’s home country or the internationally prevailing standardized examinations (such as A-Level, IBDP, etc.);
4. Language certificates such as HSK, TOEFL, IELTS, and Duolingo (applicants whose mother tongue is Chinese/English are free from the above certificate after getting approved from our school);
5. A recommendation letter written by the high school headmaster or teachers (email, phone number and signature should be included.)
6. Study plan written in English or Chinese with no less than 600 characters or words;
7. Scanned copy of valid foreign ordinary passport;
8. Physical Examination Record for Foreigner (download at http://sie.xjtu.edu.cn/en/2.pdfand fill in Chinese or English. The applicant must strictly take all the examinations as required by the Form. Forms leaving a blank or absence of suggestion and signature of the doctor or seal of the hospital are invalid. The results are valid for six months.);

Xi’an City Government Belt and Road Scholarship supports bachelor students to study Chinese-taught programs. XJTU offers tuition discounts for scholarship students depending on the circumstances. Applicants can submit their applications directly in the International Student Application System of Xi’an Jiaotong University. The scholarship covers the first year of degree education; the following academic year shall be comprehensively evaluated according to the student’s academic perfor mance in the university.
