BDS (in English)

Founded in Shanghai in 1896 as Nanyang Public, XJTU was renamed and relocated to Xi’an in 1956. It is one of the China's oldest institutions of higher learning and is under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education (MOE) in China. Xi'an Jiaotong University has extensive ties to the world of international scholarship and research. In addition, there are currently 1020 foreign students from 51 countries studying at XJTU.

Xi‘an Jiaotong University is recognized by WHO and the graduates of MBBS program are eligible to take the Medical Licensing Examinations held by the medical councils in different countries such as MCI, PMDC, USMLE, HPCSA, SCHS etc.

Teaching ObjectivesThe course aims to educate students to study basic theory and elementary knowledge in medicine, gain basic clinical skills of some common diseases diagnosis processing, have the primary treatment ability to urgent, difficult and severe symptoms, and be qualified for careers in hospitals, the medical and health units, medical science research departments as well as other organizations related medicine.

The internship can be finished in Chinese hospitals or in hospitals of your own country.

There is great scope for medicine as a professional career after graduation of BDS program. Job opportunities include employment in government or private hospitals, Defence Services, Nursing homes, Poly- clinics, Research and Health centers, Medical colleges etc. There is also scope to do your own practice while being visiting specialists at various hospitals or visiting faculty at Medical colleges.

Degree AwardedOn completing the requirements of the teaching program and passing the graduation examinations successfully, international medical undergraduates will be granted a graduation certificate and conferred a medical degree by Xi‘an Jiaotong University if they meet the degree regulations of Xi‘an Jiaotong University . The English copy of the degree will state BDS.

CareerAfter obtaining BDSDegree, the graduates can apply to take the medical licensing examination in the medical council in order to get registered and practice medicine. According to the regulations in different countries, the students may need to do the degree accreditation first. A BDS degree holder can find jobs in government as well as private hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities. Except this, one can also start his own clinic or pursue study for master's degree.

The School of International Education was founded in March,2006. It is famous for a beautiful study environment, advanced teaching facilities, professional academic staff, diversified courses and effective teaching. Since the school establishment, over 2,000 international students from more than 30 countries have participated in Chinese study. After several years' improvement, the School of Chinese Language Study has become an independent school with a combination of Chinese teaching and culture education. Through a combination of Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing, international students can acquire a vocabulary of 800-1000 Chinese words after 6 months and 1500-2000 after one year. In recent years, the Ratio of our international students passing the 3rd band of HSK (the Chinese proficiency test) is over 90%, and that of passing 6th is over 60%. Language school graduates have gone on to get their get master’s degrees at Chinese universities, find jobs in international politics, economics and culture fields and write articles for Chinese newspapers and magazines. One student even published a book written entirely in Chinese

Our university has two dormitory building for international students. There are four types of rooms: Single room (A), Double room (A), Single room (B), Double room (B). Food
There are 16 main canteens in the campus, including most kinds of food in China. International students can dine at various canteens. There is a canteen on the 4th floor of international student building. It’s much convenience for international students dine there. There also have some special canteen, for example, noodle house, Muslim canteen, and food of Taiwan kind—MingJi canteen.
You need buy a meal card and charge it. The average cost for each meal is about RMB 5.

3 Steps to Apply to a Chinese University

1. 18-25 years of age & with good health status;

2. Valid foreign ordinary passport;

3. High school / senior secondary or advanced diploma; (Applicants who are still in the last year of high school can provide the expected graduation certificate for applying while the official diploma must be provided before Sep 1st, 2025 upon enrollment)

4. Language skills

English taught program: Submit English proficiency certificate. IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80 (or above), Duolingo 110 or other equivalent English proficiency certificates recognized by our university are accepted.

Native speakers of Chinese or English can be exempted from the corresponding language proficiency certificate after being recognized by our university.

5. Comply with the regulations of the Ministry of Education’s document. [2020] No.12 and the relevant regulations of our university.

*1. Study plan written in English or Chinese with no less than 600 characters or words.

*2. Passport-sized photo

A passport-sized photo taken recently of the applicant.

*3. Non-criminal record

It must be issued by your local police station with official stamp.

*4. A recommendation letter written by high school headmaster or teachers (Signature, email and phone number of the referee should be included.)

*5. Physical Examination Record for Foreigner

Completed in Chinese or English. The applicant must strictly take all the examination as required by the Form. Leaving a blank or absence of suggestion and signature of the doctor or seal of the hospital will make the form invalid.

*6. English language proficiency test results

For English taught programs.

7. Supporting Documents: Certificate of Good Conduct

Provided by your current/previous school/company in Chinese/English to improve your success rate.

*8. Scanned copy of valid foreign ordinary passport

With name, passport number & expiration date, and photo included(Photocopy of valid passport identification page. Passport must be an ordinary passport and be valid for at least six months. Applicants currently residing in China must include a copy of the page containing a valid visa or residence permit.)

*9. Notarized copies of high school academic transcripts, including courses taken and scores achieved

Academic Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization. Both original and official English translated version are required.

*10. Notarized copies of senior high school graduation diploma, either in Chinese or English
