Information Management and Information Systems

Founded in Shanghai in 1896 as Nanyang Public, XJTU was renamed and relocated to Xi’an in 1956. It is one of the China's oldest institutions of higher learning and is under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education (MOE) in China. Xi'an Jiaotong University has extensive ties to the world of international scholarship and research. In addition, there are currently 1020 foreign students from 51 countries studying at XJTU.

Introduction The Information Management and Information Systems degree is designed to equip students with skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to the field of e-finance and e-business. What knowledge and skills will I acquire? By the time you graduate, you should: 1. understand information management and information systems and how they may be applied to e-finance and e-business 2. be able to understand and apply a range of accounting and quantitative methods to describe and model financial products 3. know how to develop and apply e-finance software 4. have a broad understanding of business and economic principles What are my career prospects? Graduates are equipped to pursue both technical and managerial careers within the IT and financial services industries. The programme also provides a sound basis for further graduate level study. What will I study? At level 1, you will develop a strong foundation through the study of a combination of computing, economic and finance, and mathematics and statistics: 5. Java programming ? databases ? mathematical reasoning, logic and problem solving 6. economic principles 7. finance 8. experimental methods and human-centric computing 9. statistics

At level 2, you will develop your knowledge of financial analysis and management and also learn about: 1. corporate social responsibility 2. e-business systems 3. database development and design, and 4. software engineering In the final year, you will undertake a research project, spanning both semesters. Alongside your project, you will develop your technical and business knowledge through the study of: 1. business finance 2. semi-structured databases 3. technologies for e-commerce 4. e-Business models and strategies

The School of International Education was founded in March,2006. It is famous for a beautiful study environment, advanced teaching facilities, professional academic staff, diversified courses and effective teaching. Since the school establishment, over 2,000 international students from more than 30 countries have participated in Chinese study. After several years' improvement, the School of Chinese Language Study has become an independent school with a combination of Chinese teaching and culture education. Through a combination of Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing, international students can acquire a vocabulary of 800-1000 Chinese words after 6 months and 1500-2000 after one year. In recent years, the Ratio of our international students passing the 3rd band of HSK (the Chinese proficiency test) is over 90%, and that of passing 6th is over 60%. Language school graduates have gone on to get their get master’s degrees at Chinese universities, find jobs in international politics, economics and culture fields and write articles for Chinese newspapers and magazines. One student even published a book written entirely in Chinese

Our university has two dormitory building for international students. There are four types of rooms: Single room (A), Double room (A), Single room (B), Double room (B). Food
There are 16 main canteens in the campus, including most kinds of food in China. International students can dine at various canteens. There is a canteen on the 4th floor of international student building. It’s much convenience for international students dine there. There also have some special canteen, for example, noodle house, Muslim canteen, and food of Taiwan kind—MingJi canteen.
You need buy a meal card and charge it. The average cost for each meal is about RMB 5.

3 Steps to Apply to a Chinese University

The University accepts a wide variety of school, college and foundation qualifications such as A-Level, AS-Level, IB and other equivalent overseas qualifications. All students must have acceptable English language qualifications to study at the University. Various English qualifications are acceptable including:

IELTS: 5.5 for year 1 entry , or 6.5 for advanced standing; or
TOEFL 520 (paper-based), or 190 (computer-based) or 75 (iBT) for year 1 entry; or
TOEFL 570 (paper-based), or 230 (computer-based) or 88 (iBT) for advanced standing.
