Biomedical Engineering (BME) is an interdisciplinary field that integrates biology, medicine, engineering, materials science, and computer science. Its core lies in "using engineering techniques to solve problems in the medical and health fields". Through the development of medical equipment, the construction of biological materials, and the design of diagnosis and treatment plans, it builds a bridge between "engineering technology" and "life health". From the commonly used blood glucose meters to high-end artificial hearts and CT scanners, all of these are supported by the technical capabilities of Biomedical Engineering.

NPU has 1,801 faculty members, including 15 CAS or CAE academicians, 428 professors, and 556 associate professors. Over 82% of them hold a master's degree or above. Teachers under the age of 45 account for 76% of the total faculty. The university continues to recruit an increasing number of teachers who have worked abroad at other universities and who have a great variety of experiences. NPU provides students with various, well-equipped apartments in different specification and conditions. Examined and approved by government, the apartments are abounded by all kinds of dining rooms and restaurants, hospitals, store, banks and well-equipped sports grounds which bring great convenience to students. Each apartment is equipped with an air conditioner, heating, a writing desk, a telephone, international access and cook tools etc.

Note: 

Students should pay 500 RMB refundable deposit. The money will be returned when they check out.

Students can live out of campus, but the university requires that students who study Chinese language should live in the Oversea Students Apartment for the first year.

The Students who study for degrees should live in the Oversea Students Apartment during the whole period.

Students who apply for living outside campus shall register both at International College of NPU and at local police station.

3 Steps to Apply to a Chinese University

1. Physical and mental health (free from infectious diseases and without any physical or mental disorders that affect normal learning). 

2. By September 1, 2025, the applicants for the master's program should be no older than 30 years of age. 

3. Educational Requirements: As of September 1, 2025, applicants for the master's program must have a bachelor's degree. 

4. Learning ability: Applicants should possess good learning ability and academic performance. The required score for the previous stage of application for applicants is 75%, and for those applying for the Chinese Government Scholarship, it is 80%. Applicants can provide other proof of their learning ability or academic performance such as GRE, GMAT, etc. 

5. Language Requirements 

The applicant should possess the required language proficiency in both Chinese and English as per the admission criteria.

1．A copy of the personal information page of your valid passport.

The passport should be valid until October 30, 2025 at least. Applicants currently residing in mainland China must also provide a scanned copy of the currently valid visa page or residence permit page.

If the applicant does not have the passport on the time for application, the national ID can be used instead. However the passport is one of the mandatory application documents. Applicants should apply for it and provide to Admissions office as soon as possible.

2．A copy of undergraduate diploma.

Both degree and graduation certificate are asked to provide for applicants who finish the undergraduate program in China.

Graduating students can provide pre-graduation certificate, indicating the expecting time for graduate. The original undergraduate diploma must be provided for registration after admission.

3．Transcripts for each semester/academic year during undergraduate period.  

4．Recommendation letters from two professors ( associate professor or level above).

5．Study plan for Master Degree program (based on given template).

6．Chinese (HSK)/English language certificate (IELTS or TOFEL or Duolingo or PTE).

Under these circumstances, language certificate is not needed:

• Applicants who are Chinese native speakers and applying for Chinese medium majors.

• Applicants who are English native speakers and applying for English medium majors.

7．Non-criminal record (valid for six months).

8．Acceptance letter from a supervisor.

The School of Aeronautics, School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Electronics and Information, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, School of Life Science and School of Foreign Studies require that the Master Program Applicants have to have the acceptance letter from supervisors to complete the application.

For the applicants who apply for master majors in other schools, acceptance letter is not a must and will be a bonus point.

9．Officially recognized awards, scientific research achievements (if any).

10．A copy of "Physical Examination Form for Foreigners" (valid for six months).

11．Bank statement(5000USD).

12．Other supplementary materials required.

13．Students applying for architecture or design majors shall provide one’s own art/design portfolio.

Xi'an Scholarship: 

The first prize winner will be exempted from tuition and accommodation fees, and will receive 2000 RMB per month.

The second prize winner will be exempt from tuition fees and will receive 2000 RMB per month. 

Third prize winner will be exempt from 50% of the tuition fee and will receive 2000 RMB per month.

This scholarship is a freshman scholarship, and is only provided for the first academic year of new students.

All scholarship winners must pass an annual review. The level of on-campus scholarship will be adjusted according to their academic performance.
