Law is a social science that studies legal phenomena and their laws. It takes the Constitution, departmental laws (civil law, criminal law, administrative law, etc.) and legal practice as its core, and explores the essence, function and application logic of law. This major aims to cultivate professional talents with legal thinking, practical operation skills and a sense of social responsibility, and is committed to maintaining social fairness and justice through the analysis of legal norms, case interpretation and dispute resolution. Law is not only a theoretical discipline (such as legal philosophy and legal history), but also a highly practical applied discipline that needs to solve specific problems in combination with real scenarios such as legislation, judiciary and law enforcement.

NPU has 1,801 faculty members, including 15 CAS or CAE academicians, 428 professors, and 556 associate professors. Over 82% of them hold a master's degree or above. Teachers under the age of 45 account for 76% of the total faculty. NPU provides students with various, well-equipped apartments in different specification and conditions. Examined and approved by government, the apartments are abounded by all kinds of dining rooms and restaurants, hospitals, store, banks and well-equipped sports grounds which bring great convenience to students. Each apartment is equipped with an air conditioner, heating, a writing desk, a telephone, international access and cook tools etc.

Note: 

Students should pay 500 RMB refundable deposit. The money will be returned when they check out.

Students can live out of campus, but the university requires that students who study Chinese language should live in the Oversea Students Apartment for the first year.

The Students who study for degrees should live in the Oversea Students Apartment during the whole period.

Students who apply for living outside campus shall register both at International College of NPU and at local police station.

3 Steps to Apply to a Chinese University

1. Health condition

Good physical and mental health (free from infectious diseases and physical or mental disorders that may affect normal study).

2 Age requirement

As of September 1, 2025, applicants must not exceed 25 years old.

3 Educational requirements

By September 1, 2025, applicants must have obtained a high school graduation certificate.

4 Learning ability

Applicants should possess good learning ability and academic performance. The score requirement for applicants of the undergraduate program in the previous application stage is 75%. Schools refer to the results of internationally recognized standardized tests such as SAT, ACT, A-Level, AP, IB, and GED, or regional high school unified examinations. Applicants may provide proof of other learning abilities or academic performance.

5 Language requirements

Applicants should have a language proficiency in Chinese or English that meets the admission standards. In some countries, the proof of English proficiency may be waived (information on English-speaking countries).

1. A scanned copy of the valid and clear information page of the passport

The passport is valid until October 30, 2025 and beyond. Applicants currently residing in the Chinese mainland must also provide a scanned copy of the current valid visa page or residence permit page.

2 Scanned copy of high school graduation certificate

If the applicant is a current student, they must submit a certificate of enrollment issued by their school, which includes the expected graduation date, and submit the graduation certificate before registration.

3 Scanned copies of the transcripts for each semester/academic year during high school

If the applicant has not completed the previous stage of study, they must provide transcripts for all semesters up to the time of application.

Applicants who meet the following conditions are not required to provide proof of language proficiency

Applicants whose native language is Chinese are applying for programs taught in Chinese.

Applicants whose native language is English are applying for English-taught programs.

6 Scanned copy of the certificate of no criminal record (valid within 6 months)

Currently residing within the territory of Chinese mainland, one must simultaneously submit a criminal record clearance certificate from both the home country and the period of stay in China.

If you are temporarily unable to provide a certificate of no criminal record due to various special circumstances, please fill out the "Personal Commitment Letter". After being tentatively admitted, you must submit the certificate of no criminal record as soon as possible. Only after submitting it can you obtain the admission qualification.

7 Scanned copies of officially certified awards and research achievements (not mandatory)

8 Scanned copy of the "Physical Examination Form for Foreigners" (valid within 6 months)

Those currently residing in the Chinese mainland and holding a valid "Foreigner's Residence Permit" or "Foreigner's Permanent Residence Identity Card" may use either of the above materials to replace the "Foreigner's Physical Examination Form".

9 As of November 1, 2025, applicants under the age of 18 must provide a minor guarantee letter (template).

10. Bank statements of the account of myself or my parents for the past six months (with a balance of no less than 5,000 US dollars).

11. Other supplementary materials required to be submitted by Northwestern Polytechnical University.
