MBBS( in English )

Wenzhou Medical University is a multidisciplinary university directly under the Department of Education of Zhejiang Province. The history of Wenzhou Medical University dates back to 1912. In recent years, Wenzhou Medical University has actively carried out international cooperation, established cooperative relations with more than 60 foreign colleges and universities or academic institutions, and enrolled more than 450 international students. At the same time, Western medicine has set up Confucius Institutes abroad to devote itself to the teaching of Chinese language and culture. MBBS taught in English is a popular course for international students.

Goal of Training

According to the Chinese training goal for the undergraduate medical students, and the international demands as well as the needs of the international students’ countries, we shall educate and train them into qualified professionals, who can do clinical, teaching and research work in medical care institutions.

Time Distribution

Total weeks:312 weeks including 168 weeks for teaching, 9 week for early stage clinical practice, 22 weeks for exams, 21 weeks for practice, 48 weeks for internship, 2 weeks for flexible teaching, 45 weeks for vacation.

Course ArrangementsThe program for the foreign undergraduate medical students (in English Medium)is divided into three stages:1. The first stage is to study Chinese culture and natural sciences, including the subjects of General introduction to China, Chinese Language, Medical Chinese Language, Physics, Chemistry etc., which lay a good foundation for the basic theory, basic knowledge and basic skills of the future medical program and familiarize foreign students with Chinese culture. Only the students who pass all the subjects in the first stage will be allowed to continue to study in the second stage.2. The second stage is to study the basic medicine, including the subjects of Cell Biology, Systematic Anatomy, Regional Anatomy, Histology, Embryology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Medical Genetics, Experimental Biochemical Techniques, Immunology, Medical Microbiology, Human Parasitological, Pathology, Medical Pharmacology, Medical Statistics, Epidemiology, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Diagnostics, Clinical Pharmacology, Operative Surgery, Forensic Medicine and Basic Nutrition and Diet Therapy.3. The third stage is clinical medicine, including the three parts: teaching, practice and internship. Students are advised to begin the early clinical practice during the second stage in order to allow students to gain clinical knowledge and skills. In the process of the medical teaching, emphasis is placed on training in basic theory, basic knowledge and basic skills of clinical medicine. Besides tutorship, discussion, lectures, etc. foreign students also can practice in hospital with the Chinese students studying and helping each other. Theory class is combined with practice, and divided into three parts. The clinical skills include Case History Collection, Physical Examination, Assistant Examination, Diagnosis, Differential Diagnosis, Treatment Plan to work out and carry out, Clinical thought, Emergency handing, Communication Skill and so on. Students are trained in primary clinical thought and how to handle common diseases and frequently-occurring diseases in their own field.

Wenzhou Medical University (WMU) is a key construction university of Zhejiang Province. It’s one of the largest and most robust schools for clinical medicine sciences in Zhejiang Province.

Wenzhou Medical University embraces internationalization in the course of its development. It has established partnerships with more than 80 universities and institutions all over the world, collaborating in scholar/student exchanges, joint education programs, joint research, etc. Two Confucius Institutes have been co-established with Burapha University in Thailand and SUNY College of Optometry respectively.

3 Steps to Apply to a Chinese University

1.Non-Chinese citizens aged between 18-30 (in principle) with a valid passport (according to the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China);

(1) According to Article 5 of the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China, the applicant has acquire foreign nationality at birth and does not have Chinese nationality, whose parents are both Chinese citizens and both have settled abroad, or one of whose parents is a Chinese citizen and has settled abroad. Starting from 2021, the applicant who applies to study at WMU as international students, in addition to meeting other application requirements of our university, should hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for more than 4 years (inclusive) and have actually resided in a foreign country for more than 2 years in the recent 4 years (before April 30 of the year of admission) (the actual resided in a foreign country for more than 9 months in a year can be counted as one year, subject to the entry and exit signature);

(2) Residents of mainland China (mainland), Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who have immigrated and acquire foreign nationality and apply to study as international students at WMU should also meet the requirement (1).

2. Graduated from high school or equivalent, scores (including physics, chemistry and biology) meeting admission requirements;

3. In good health, abide by Chinese laws and regulations of the university.

Note: All medical related majors do not recruit students who are color blindness. Left-hander is not qualified by the BDS program.

① Application form for International Students of Wenzhou Medical University. The form will be automatically generated after applicants complete the information in the online application system, and applicants should upload their signatures;

② High School Transcript with the official stamp (scanned color copies of original or notarized copies in Chinese or English);

③ High school diploma or equivalent certificate (fresh graduates can provide pre-graduation certificate first) (scanned color copies of original or notarized copies in Chinese or English);

④ Passport within the validity period (Scanned color copy);

⑤ Digital colored photo in white background (Format: JPG: 100-500KB);

⑥ Financial guarantee certificate (parents' income certificate or bank deposit certificate);

⑦ Foreigner Physical Examination Form: A scanned copy (the applicant should keep the original). The Chinese quarantine authorities issue this form, which must be completed in English. It is advised to choose the date wisely, for the results are valid only for 6 months;

⑧ Applicants whose native language is not English should provide scanned color copies of proof of English proficiency (such as IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo, etc., with IELTS no less than 6.0 and each band no less than 5.0; TOEFL no less than 70 and each band no less than 15; Duolingo no less than 105) or proof of a medium-of-instruction certificate in English during high school;

⑨ A self-introduction video (3-5 minutes, no more than 50M) in English;

⑩ Other supplementary documents as required by WMU.
