Founded in 1958, nearly 50 years ago, Zhejiang A&F University (ZAFU) is a comprehensive university directly under the auspices of Zhejiang Province offering bachelor and master degrees in agriculture, technology, science, literature, management, law, economics, medicine, etc. and enrolling international students as well as students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.

ZAFU, located in Lin’an City (west of the popular tourist destination Hangzhou) has Yijin and East Lake campuses covering nearly 167 hectares with 550,000 square meters of building space. Its modern buildings and facilities in a setting of great natural beauty, surrounded by mountains and water, make ZAFU a most suitable place for learning, teaching, and conducting research. The campus combined with the botanical garden comprise an ecological environment with functions of teaching, scientific research, and biodiversity conservation.

ZAFU has 16 teaching schools, colleges and division: School of Agriculture and Food Science, School of Forestry and Biotechnology, School of Environmental Science and Technology, School of Engineering, School of Landscape Architecture, School of Economics and Management, School of Humanities, School of Information and Engineering, School of Foreign Languages, School of Tourism and Health, School of Tea Culture, School of Science, School of Art Design, International College, Continuing Education College and Division of Physical & Military Training. It has 47 undergraduate majors, among them 1 national characteristic major and 8 key provincial major. ZAFU also has national excellent subjects, 11 provincial excellent subjects and 1 Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstrate Center. It is authorized to award 1 first-class master’s degree in forestry engineering and 15 second-class master's degrees in science, technology, literature, management, agriculture, law etc.

ZAFU boasts a 1,500 strong team of staff and faculty, of which 900 are teachers, two are shared academicians, one is elected among the national new century talent pool, two are professors specially engaged by the provincial government, 54 are included in the 151 talent-cultivating program, 18 are discipline leading teachers among the province-wide universities, 195 are qualified to tutor graduates, more than 40 are provincial outstanding teachers, 1 is entitled as prominent teacher in term of professional ethics by the state.

Wood Science and Engineeringwas founded in 1988.After more than 30 years of development,it is now fully accredited as national first-class undergraduate major, national characteristic major, province-level key major, the first national reforming pilot major of top-notch innovative series“Education and Training Program for Outstanding Agricultural and Forestry Talents”and has been recognised by the International professional certification by Society of Wood Science and Technology (SWST)in2018.The major relies on theFaculty of Forestry Engineering“First-class Discipline (Class A)”in Zhejiang Province, supported by high-level platforms such as the National Engineering Technology Research Center for Comprehensive Utilization of Wood Based Resources and Zhejiang Key Laboratory of Wood Science and Technology. It has formed distinctive talent training characteristics in fields such as intelligent manufacturing. Graduates can be competent for scientific research and technological development in the field of wood and composite materials, and have fully developed into the academic elite and technical backbone of the industry.

The training program is based on moral education and adheres to the combination of knowledge imparting and value guiding. The concept of "green materials, environmental protection, sustainable development, and scientist spirit" runs through the whole process of education and attaches importance to the overall and lifelong development ofthestudents. Based on strictly following the talent training standards of forestry engineering specialty of the Ministry of Education, a new engineering curriculum system for wood and its composite material design, processing and application is urgently needed. Focusing on the five-party coordination of "government, industry, education, research and application",neweducation mechanism and training programwillbeestablished to strengthen the cultivation of students' practical ability and innovative spirit, and realize the unification of social development, industrial prosperity and talent training. Under the framework of the SWST professional certification system,the training programwillactively expand students' international vision andtheircross-cultural communication capabilities, and enhance students' international competitiveness in all aspects.

Wood Science and Engineeringis devoted to training leading innovative talents who not only possess basic theories and professional knowledge in structures, properties and processing of wood, wood based composites and biomass materials, but also possess basic abilities in wood identities & preservations, productions of wood (biomass) based materials, and the design, processing and management of wood (biomass) products and furniture, and have the awareness of ecological civilization, innovative spirit and entrepreneurial ability. These talents can play a leading role in environmental protection, functional material and product research and development, intelligent production management, information marketing, quality inspection and other work in wood and biomass composite material processing enterprises, furniture manufacturing enterprises, building decoration companies, real estate development enterprises, customs, and commodity inspection units.

3 Steps to Apply to a Chinese University

1. Applicants should be aged between 18 and 28

2.Applicant should be non-Chinese citizens with valid regular foreign passport and be friendly to China; 

*Residents of China who have emigrated to a foreign country and who are now applying to study in China as international students must have held a valid foreign passport for at least 4 years, and must have actually resided in a foreign country for at least 2 years in the past 4 years.
