The university is jointly established by the Central Government and Hunan Provincial Government, mainly under the administration of Hunan Province. The university plays an active role in international exchanges and has established exchange and cooperation with institutions of higher learning and research institutes in a score of countries and regions including the USA, UK, France, Russia, Canada, South Korea, Japan and Australia.

Changsha University of Science & Technology (CUST) is an engineering-centered multidisciplinary university integrating engineering, science, management, economics, liberal arts and law, with strong disciplinary advantages and prominent features in the industries of communications, electric power and water conservancy. The university is jointly established by the Central Government and Hunan Provincial Government, mainly under the administration of Hunan Province.                              

The university is located on Jinpenling and Yuntang Campuses, with an area of 210.56 hectares (equivalent to 3158.4mu) and a total floor space of 1173000 square meters. The university has fixed assets totaling 1.9 billion yuan (around US$ 291.1 million), among which the apparatus and equipment for teaching and research are valued at 285 million yuan. The university has a collection of more than 3,628,700 books and a Gigabit Backbone Networking system. The multimedia classrooms and language laboratories can seat 16,642students.

The university boasts of 17 schools and departments, with 1 post-doctoral workstation, 3 discipline and 15 sub-disciplines for doctoral degrees, 18 disciplines and 104 sub-disciplines for master’s degrees. It is accredited to confer master’s degrees to those with equivalent academic attainments and to confer master of engineering and MBA and other five types of professional master degrees. It has 7 key disciplines at provincial or ministerial level, 21 key specialties at provincial level. The university also establishes 13 key laboratories at provincial or ministerial level, 7 research bases of Philosophy and Social Sciences at provincial level, 6 demonstration laboratories for basic courses at provincial level, 20 excellent Bases for Educational Practices at provincial level.


The university is staffed with 1,888 full-time teachers, among whom are 302 professors, 3 academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering in concurrent posts, 1 entitled as the State young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contribution, 1 selected as candidate of the first and second level of the “National Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project”, 3 selected as candidates of the first national level of the “New Century National Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project”, and 7 with the “Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University” of the Ministry of Education.

The university recruits students from 31 municipalities, provinces and autonomous regions. And the full-time enrolled students total 36,700, among whom are 34,000 undergraduate students, 2,700 postgraduate students and PhD candidates. The graduate employment rate has kept at more than 95% for consecutive years, topping Hunan Province. The university is accredited to enroll international students and students from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, and has established cooperation and exchange programs with over ten universities and scientific institutes from the USA, UK, France, Russia, Canada, South Korea, Japan and Australia. The university also cooperates with Xinjiang Autonomous Region in training senior engineering talents of the minority ethics, and jointly train students of national defense with the Air Force of the People’s Liberation Army of China.

There are two types of accommodations for students:

A.single room possess an air conditioner, color TV, fridge,telephone, furniture: 5500 RMB/ per semester.
B.double room possess an air conditioner, color TV, fridge, telephone, furniture: 2750 RMB/per semester.

ENROLL IN CHINA

Entry Requirements

1.Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens.

2.Applicants must be physically and mentally healthy, and possess good conduct and academic performance.

3.Academic and age requirements:

For undergraduate applicants: Must hold a high school diploma and be under 25 years of age.

For master’s degree applicants: Must hold a bachelor’s degree and be under 35 years of age.

Applicants under the age of 18 must submit a notarized letter of guardianship in China.

4.Language proficiency requirements:

Program Language Requirements

Undergraduate: Transportation Engineering (Chinese-taught) Generally, HSK Level 3 or above. Those who have not achieved 180 points or above in HSK Level 4 must undertake one year of preparatory study after enrollment.

Master’s: Road and Railway Engineering (English-taught) TOEFL score of 68 or above, IELTS score of 5.5 or above, or Duolingo score of 85 or above.

Applicants from English-speaking countries or those whose previous degree programs were taught in English are exempt from providing English proficiency certificates.


Application Materials

(1)A valid ordinary passport (valid for more than one year; applicants in China must also submit a valid residence permit page).

(2)Notarized highest academic degree certificate (scanned original and translation).

If the applicant is currently a student, a Certificate of Enrollment issued by the school specifying the expected graduation date must be submitted.

Certificates obtained overseas must be notarized; certificates obtained within China require only a scanned copy.

(3)Scanned copies of transcripts from the previous academic stage and their translations.

(4)Study and Research Plan for master’s applicants (at least 1,000 words), including: Introduction, Research Questions, Literature Review, Research Methods, Expected Conclusions, and References.

(5)Two academic recommendation letters from professors or associate professors for master’s applicants (written in Chinese or English).

(6)Foreigner Physical Examination Form (fully completed and valid within 6 months) (Blank form attached as Annex ).

(7)Valid Certificate of No Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority (normally within 6 months prior to the application submission date).

(8)Language proficiency certificates:

Chinese-taught programs: HSK certificate.

English-taught programs: TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo certificates (Exemptions apply as noted above).

(9)Academic achievements, cultural and sports competition certificates (if available).
