Brief Introduction
Central South University (CSU) is a comprehensive and national key university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education in China. The University is among the first group admitted into both Project 211, a project of building national key universities and colleges for the 21st century, and Project 985, a joint constructive project of building world-class universities co-sponsored by the Chinese central government and local governments. According to the latest Webometrics Ranking of World Universities (WRWU) published by CSIC, CSU has become one of the eight Chinese universities ranking in the world’s top 200.
CSU was established in 2000 on the basis of the merger of three former individual universities, namely Central South University of Technology (founded in 1952), Hunan Medical University (founded in 1914, currently named XiangYa School of Medicine) and Changsha Railway University (founded in 1953).
Faculties
CSU is now led by President Yaoxue Zhang, the inventor of the first route in China, who is as well as an academician of the Chinese Engineering Academy. CSU covers an area of 3,810,000 square meters and has a total floor space of 2,330,000 square meters. CSU has 33800 full-time college students, 15796 graduate students, and about 1000 overseas students. CSU covers 11 fields of study, including engineering, science, medicine, management, literature, law, economics, philosophy, education, history and agriculture, and offers military science as well.
Disciplines
CSU has many distinguished disciplines. CSU is famous for the highest institution of nonferrous metal. The XiangYa Hospital of CSU enjoys a leading place in medicine and a world-renowned reputation as “North XieHe, South XiangYa”. CSU is also one of the birthplaces of high-speed railway transportation, where Nation Engineering Laboratory for Contruction Technology of High-speed Railway is located.
International students will be housed at the Foreign Students Dormitory located in the main campus. The dorm is cheap, comfortable, clean and safe. There are single and double rooms available. There is a 24 hour reception desk available at the lobby, with a mini-supermarket and meeting place. The gymnasium and students’ dining halls are nearby. Students who are staying for an entire academic year are eligible for accommodation on campus during semester breaks.

1) Excellent Non-Chinese citizens, with no criminal records and in good health.
2) For Master's degrees, applicants should have a bachelor's degree and should be 18 to 35 years old; for Doctoral degree, applicants should have a master's degree and should be 18 to 40 years old.
3) Language Eligibility: Students who apply for Chinese-taught programs should obtain a minimum score of 260 in HSK4 for science and engineering programs and 200 in HSK5 for arts, social science, and medical programs.
Students who apply for English-taught programs should obtain a minimum score of 6 in IELTS or 85 in TOFEL.
Those who meet one of the following conditions are exempt from proving their linguistic competence:
a) Applicants whose first language or the official language of the country is Chinese or English.
b) Applicants who have taken a degree program whose teaching language is in Chinese or English.
4) Applicants are required to have a strong academic background and innovative research capabilities.
5) Some programs have their own admission requirement, and applicants shall be qualified before applying. For details, see the Program Catalogue.

3) Stamped Transcript of the highest diploma. Non-Chinese/English documents must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
4) HSK Transcript for Chinese-taught programs and IELTS\TOEFL for English-taught programs, or other documents to prove your linguistic competence.
5) Non-criminal record in Chinese/English with an official stamp. The issue date shall be after October 1, 2024.
6) Physical Examination Record. Applicants should strictly check the items in accordance with the requirement of Physical Examination Record.pdf Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending doctor, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. The date shall be after October 1, 2024. The original piece is required during registration.
7) Self-introduction video. Applicants are required to upload a self-introduction video within one minute, and the holder of HSK certificate must use Chinese to record the video. The video must be in MP4 format with a capacity of less than 40MB. Applicants involved can, with the help of video format conversion software, adjust the resolution ratio, bit rate, and other indexes to adjust the file size.
