General Chinese (Mandarin) Training Courses

Being one of the leading universities in the People’s Republic of China, Sun Yat-sen University is a comprehensive multi-disciplinary university. The Course last from six months to three years. Students are placed into classes of different levels according to their proficiency in Chinese upon enrollment.

Level The classes are divided into three levels: elementary, intermediary, and advanced ones.

The elementary class:concentrates on teaching students’ basic Chinese knowledge and training their language skills.

The intermediary class:focuses on further developing students' reading and writing skills while enhancing their basic Chinese knowledge.

The advanced class:emphases on training students' overall Chinese language skills such as listening, speaking, reading and writing, and helping students gain an insight into Chinese culture and society.

Course Non-degree Chinese Language Training Courses offer the following courses: Speaking Skill, Listening, Reading, Writing, Audio & Video Comprehension, Intensive Reading, Chinese Newspaper Reading and Cantonese.

If a student transfers to the CFL Undergraduate Course, his/her scores accredited from the training courses and relevant learning experiences will be approved (by the School’s confirmation) and passed onto the recording of the total credits for the undergraduate course.

In general, after one to two years' training in these language courses, the students would be enable to attend the classes instructed in normal speed Chinese for the native Chinese students.

The students whose Chinese proficiency meets the HSK test requirement (HSK Band 3 for natural science students and HSK Band 6 for liberal arts students)and other related conditions can be recommended by the School to conduct undergraduate study in other schools or departments.

The Guangzhou South Campus is located in Haizhu District, Guangzhou, and covers a total area of 1.17 square kilometers. It mainly hosts disciplines in sciences and humanities.

Guangzhou East Campus
The Guangzhou East Campus is located at the north end of the Guangzhou University City in Xiaoguwei, Panyu, and covers an area of 1.13 square kilometers. The Guangzhou University City is a major development made by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province in an effort to implement the strategy of building Guangdong through science and education. The first batch of students started school there in September, 2004.

Zhuhai Campus
The Zhuhai Campus is located at Tang Jia Wan, Zhuhai City, and covers an area of 3.48 square kilometers. Freshmen and sophomores of some disciplines in liberal arts, natural sciences, and medical sciences are currently living and studying on campus with students from the School of Network Education and Continuing Education.
