Chinese Language Program (Mandarin)

Southwest University for Nationalities is situated in Chengdu, known as the "Heavenly State" (Tian Fu Zhi Guo) and the natural habitat of cute giant pandas. SWUN is a multi-disciplinary higher education institute that includes literature, history, philosophy, economics, management, law and natural science. The student population of SWUN is composed of not only ethnic minorities in China, but also Han Chinese and foreigners. The SWUN specialty is the non-degree programs, in which you can learn pure Mandarin as well as languages of local flavor--the Yi language (dialect) and the Tibetan language (dialect). Besides, a total of 100 degree programs, including 47 bachelor's degree programs, 26 master's degree programs and 27 doctoral degree programs, are available for you as well. Main Courses Mandarin Chinese Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing.

Note: Applicant who has Chinese Language Knowledge could transfer into the course before May. Applicant who is beginner should take the could as the school calendar.

Elective Courses (students could choose 2 optional courses from below courses) Tibetan Language (dialect) Yi Language (dialect) Sichuan Language (dialect) Culture Of Chinese Minority Taiji Chinese Traditional Painting Wushu etc. Note: 1. Above courses could be 4 class hours per week as the Elective Course included in the Mandarin Chinese Language Program. 2. The Elective Course above could be a small group independent class excluded from Mandarin Chinese Language Program if there are several applicants at the same level (tuition fee is the RMB 5500 per semester). 3. Or, they could be one-to-one independent course with at least 8 class hours per week (tuition fee is RMB 7500 per semester). Class Hours 12-16 class hours per week

Insurance fee 300 RMB per semester, 600 RMB per year.

The university has five key provincial (ministerial)-level subjects, five provincial-level undergraduate talents training bases and eight key provincial (ministerial)-level laboratories.

The library has collected 1.9 million books, among which nearly 100,000 are minority literatures and 25,000 are foreign language books and periodicals.
