Guangdong Pharmaceutical University (GDPU) is one of the three pharmaceutical Universities in China with independent organizational system and a popular institution of higher learning. Program Objectives

The four-year B.S. in Pharmaceuticals program prepares students for technical positions in the pharmacy production, control, and development sectors of the pharmaceutical industry or for graduate studies in pharmaceutics, medicinal chemistry/pharmacognosy, or analytical chemistry.

Requirements

Students admitted to the College’s B.S. in Pharmaceutics Program are required to complete the general courses in the initial two years, which will equip the students with the tools of language and the basic concepts and procedures of academic inquiry needed for further study. After completing the general courses, each student must choose major courses in the third and fourth years, which are directly connected with the intensive specialization in principal areas of concentration, such as pharmaceutics, industrial pharmacy, biopharmaceutics and so on. In all the categories of general and major courses, there are required courses and electives. Upon graduation, the student must have completed investigations of graduation practice (dissertation) and other practice requirements. They are also required to have a good command of Chinese, get HSK certificate and be able to read Chinese literatures in pharmaceutical science.

The main courses include physical chemistry, chemical engineering principle, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical analysis, pharmacology, pharmaceutical polymers, industrial pharmacy, biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics, process design workshop

School of pharmacy

The department of pharmaceutics is one of the academic departments in theschool of pharmacy. The academic policy of the Department of pharmaceutics is to produce graduates with well-round scholastic activities, good morality and professional etiquette, and experiences in pharmaceutics.

This department offers excellent infrastructure, which includes laboratories having advanced instrumental facilities, well furnished classrooms, seminar room etc. The department is now involved in a variety of academic programmes. The department provides a broad based education background emphasizing the theoretical and practical disciplines essential for the dosage form design, evaluation and manufacture, and development of raw material for pharmaceutical applications.

Guangdong Pharmaceutical University (GDPU) is an university under the direct leadership of Guangdong provincial government, cultivating exclusive talents and leading cadres in the sciences of pharmacy, preventive medicine and clinical medicine. The university enrolls students from the country and foreign countries.

The main campus of GDPU is situated in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center in beautiful surroundings of lakes and mountains, bluish greenery and luxuriant flowers, and modern architecture; Moreover, there are three other campuses: Zhongshan campus, Baogang campus and Chigang campus. The university covers an area of more than 200 hectares.

Guangdong Pharmaceutical University has a complete educational system offering undergraduate programs, postgraduate programs and continuing education programs. Guangdong Pharmaceutical University consists of 12 schools: School of Pharmacy, School of Public Health, School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine, School of Medical Business, School of Life Science and Biopharmacology, School of Medical Information Engineering, School of Basic Courses, School of Continuing Education, etc. Bachelor??s degrees are awarded in 7 specialties: medicine, science, engineering, management, economics, law and literature. There are 57 undergraduate degree programs and diploma programs: pharmacy, preventive medicine, Chinese Materia Medica, clinical medicine, etc. Master??s degrees are awarded in 8 research directions: Chinese Materia Medica, pharmacy, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutical analysis, internal medicine, epidemic disease and health statistics, pathogenic biology, human anatomy and histological embryology. Continuing education offers degree programs and professional training. The students body presently total with over 18,400.

GDPU has proper structure with an excellent faculty with rich teaching experience. The university has a faculty of over 1,400, with over 1,000 teaching and researching staff, 99 professors and 177 associate professors.

GDPU attaches importance to scientific research and development. The university has complete scientific research system with huge technical force. It has a batch of research institutes in provincial level and university level: Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Pharmic New Formulation, Grade 2 Laboratory of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Key Laboratory of Department of Health of Guangdong Province for Promoting Medicine by Science and Education, Key Laboratory of Department of Education of Guangdong Province of Modern Chinese Materia Medica, Research Institute of Pharmacy, Research Institute of Biopharmacology, Development and Research Institute of Chinese Materia Medica, Academy of Chinese Medicine, Experiment Animal Center, 2 directly Affiliated Hospitals, 2 indirectly Affiliated Hospitals, 1 indirectly affiliated pharmaceutical factory, 4 production, study and research bases.

GDPU, actively expanding its international academic exchanges, has already had academic, education and scientific research exchanges with institutions of higher learning in over 15 countries or regions such as U.S.A., Canada, Britain, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, etc.

It has also established friendly intercollegiate relationship with over ten countries and areas, such as Governor State University, The University of Texas, University of Hertford,, University of Liverpool John Moors, Osaka Ziqing Education Group, The University of Queensland, Taiwan Chia Nan University of Pharmacy & Science etc, The university has trained thousands of students for Hong Kong since it conducted joint course program with Hong Kong University in 1997.
 
Due to the distinguishing specialties, clear strength and good quality of students, the employment rate has been ranked top among all the provincial universities. Since 2002, the employment rate of GDPU has reached 96% averagely. And the graduates enjoy great popularity in employers. It is calculated that the university has trained over 36,000 students, and most of them have become administrative cadres and technical backbone, which is a great contribution to the provincial and national medical development.
