OUR STUDENTS ATTENDED THE BEIJING INTERNATIONAL CRICKET FIESTA 2011
Beijing International Cricket Fiesta 2011 organized this year by the Sri Lankan Embassy, took place from the 24th
to the 26th of June. A cricket team from Tianjin Medical University was invited to participate for the first time.
Cricket is considered the most popular sport among the foreign population at TMU. Two tournaments are
organized among batches every academic year. The team which represented TMU at the tournament consisted
of 12 students. Two from Pakistan, one from India and the rest from Sri Lanka.
It was the first time a team as such was put together to represent the university. After training and practicing
hard for weeks, the players managed to win all the matches beating the Indian Embassy in the semi finals and
emerging champions after defeating the Sri Lankan Embassy team at the finals. TMU scored a total of 123
runs in 8 overs and managed to keep down the Sri Lankan Embassy score to a mere 78 at the end of the
innings.
The man of the series trophy was also awarded to TMU. Team members are Rohan Dissanayaka(captain),
Rifkhan Hafrath(vice captain), Abdhul Rehman, Shafat Hassan, Amila Kannangara, Brett Lee Khattak,
Ahamed Rasvi, Sandamal Sundarapperuma, Dishan, Brian Siyaguna, Isuru De Silva(Manager). Shoayb
