Established in 1958, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TUTCM) is one of the earliest universities of TCM in China. The University has an excellent learning environment with state of the art, a distinguished teaching faculty and staff of more than 3000 (including the two affiliated hospitals). It is highly regarded and respected around the world. TUTCM is divided into four areas of study: Medical, Science, Arts and Management. The University offers 18 PhD programs, 27 masters programs, 16 undergraduate programs and one post-doctoral fellowship. The Acupuncture & Moxibustion Science is a state-level Key program. At present time, there are over 7000 students enrolled in various programs in the University.
All three affiliated teaching hospitals are ranked First Class and national drug clinic research center, together have more than 2,000 beds and 16 clinical teaching and research offices. The First Teaching Hospital has been approved by the state as the largest Acupuncture & Moxibustion center in China, National Clinical Research Center of Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Provincial Demonstration Hospital of TCM. The Second Teaching Hospital specializes in the Integration of TCM and Western Medicine, with treatment and research on Gynecology and Encephalopathy, and has a Research Center of TCM Rare Diseases. The two teaching hospitals are well equipped with modern facilities and doctors possess great skill in techniques. Both hospitals have excellent reputations and are trusted by the more than 6,000 out-patients whom they serve daily. They are important bases for clinical practice and have strong clinical teaching capacity.
The International University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (IUTCM), authorized by the State Education Committee of the People’s Republic of China, was established in 1992 in TUTCM, and has become the national center for foreign students in TCM education. Each year there are over 1000 students from 20 countries /areas studying in the university. IUTCM has established cooperation with universities, research and medical institutions from more than 30 countries and enjoys a high reputation.

i. Doctoral Applicants for Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Tuina: Master in Medicine or related subjects
ii. Doctoral Applicants for Chinese Materia Medica: Master in Chinese Materia Medica, Pharmacy or other related majors
F. No more than 35 years old for master’s applicants and 40 for doctoral applicants
★A. NOTARIZED highest diploma in Chinese or English
Prospective diploma recipients must submit official document issued by your current school to prove your current student status or expected graduation date. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
★B. NOTARIZED Transcripts in Chinese or English
Transcripts of undergraduate education must be provided for master’s application. Transcripts of undergraduate and postgraduate education must be provided for doctoral application. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
★C. Two Recommendation Letters (Written in Chinese or English by 2 different professors or associate professors)
These letters shall describe the applicant’s objectives of studying in China, the cooperation and exchange between the reference or recommending institutes and our university, as well as the evaluation of the applicant’s comprehensive abilities and future growth. (These letters are quite important, please do the preparation carefully.)
★D. Study Plan in China or research proposal, not less than 1,000 words. The plan can include, but not limited to your willingness to study in China, description of your professional abilities and education background, your research proposal and development plan in the future, and etc.
★E. English proficiency certificate
IELTS, TOFEL or any other English proficiency certificate is required. Native English speaker or applicants whose official Language is English can be exempted.
★F. Photocopy of Valid Passport (The expiry date should be late than September, 2025)
★G. Photo (2-inch color photos with white background, full face without hat)
★H. A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (Keep the original copy until registration). The form is designed by the Chinese quarantine authority and can be obtained from certain authority. The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the form. Incomplete records, those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Be sure the physical examination is valid during registration since it is only valid for 6 months.
★I. No Criminal Record Report. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of non-criminal record issued by the local public security authority. The report has to be issued within 6 months from the date of the application.
★ J. Pre-admission letter. Please send all your application documents to tutcm@hotmail.com before February 24th, 2025 to apply for your pre-admission letter. The subject of your email name shall be in the form of “Pre-admission+nationality+name”. (The pre-admission letter plays an essential part in your scholarship application. The online application is incomplete without this letter.)
K. Academic papers. (Papers published in high quality journals will increase the probability in your application.)
L. Other background materials. (Providing certificates of award or professional training, medical practice license, employment certificate, or etc., which can well prove your professional abilities and potential will help your application.)
