Founded in 1895 with the name Peiyang University, Tianjin University is the first university in China. 1. There are two on-campus international student dormitories: Youyuan international student dormitory and Liuyuan international student dormitory, single rooms in Youyuan and double rooms in Liuyuan are provided for international students.

2. Upon arrival, international students can directly apply for rooms on the reception desk, fill in the accommodation registration form; get the room key and hand over CNY10 for key's deposit.

3. There are 80 kilowatt-hour electricity costs offered by the university for Chinese government scholarship students each month, anyone of Chinese government scholarship students exceed limit of electricity, the extra electricity costs will be covered by him or herself. Self–supporting international students should be financed the electricity costs in Youyuan or Liuyuan international student dormitory international student dormitory, it is necessary to pay for 200 kilowatt-hour electricity costs when he/she live in a room for the first time, at present, it is CNY 0.55 for a kilowatt-hour.

4. The telephones in the rooms are 201 card telephones, international students can purchase telephone cards while use them.

5. The rooms in Youyuan international student dormitory, B and D Area of Liuyuan international student dormitory are equipped electric water heaters and can supply 24 hours hot water.

6. The laundries are equipped in Youyuan and Liuyuan international students dormitories, international students should purchase the cards form the service department to use them.

3 Steps to Apply to a Chinese University

1. Applicants must be a citizen from Pakistan, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Morocco, Nigeria, Thailand, Nepal, Russia.

2. Requirements for applicants’ degree and age: 

Applicant applying for a Bachelor degree should hold a High School diploma and be under the age of 25 ;

Applicant applying for a Master degree should hold a Bachelor diploma and be under the age of 35 ;

Applicant applying for a PhD degree should hold a Master diploma and be under the age of 40.

Applicants shall be of good moral character, physically and mentally healthy, and willing to comply with Chinese laws and the regulations of Tianjin University.

3. Language Proficiency requirements:

① Chinese-taught programs applicants need to submit HSK5 certificates (Score 180 or above).

(Native Chinese speakers or applicants taught in Chinese during master study may be exempted from the HSK test after certified by Tianjin University)

②English-taught programs applicants need to submit English proficiency certificate (Native English speakers are exempted). TOEFL: no less than 80, IELTS: no less than 6.0. （Native English speakers are exempted. Applicants who obtained their highest diploma taught in English may provide a certificate of English instruction instead of IELTS or TOEFL certificate）

1.  Scan Copy of High School，Bachelor and Master Diploma. Scan of pre-graduation certificate is required if the applicants have not gained degree certificate before the application deadline, please resubmit the notarized copy of highest diploma before registration.

2. Scan of notarized copy of the High School，Bachelor and Master academic transcripts (Applicants who will not graduate before the application deadline must provide their current academic transcript. In this case, the completed academic transcripts must be submitted before registration).

3. Photocopy of passport within the validity period after March. 1st, 2026. 

4. Chinese or English Proficiency Certificate (for more requirements, please refer to Qualifications )

5. Study Experience Resume (The start and end time of each education experience must be uninterrupted, and education level should start from senior middle school). 

6. Form of Provisional Acceptance of International Student by TJU Professor (Required for Master and Ph.D applicants only, not compulsory, remember to upload it to the application system, if you get the Acceptance letter). Please click here to get contacts of professors（Master Program; PhD Program）.

7. Study or research plan:  for the Bachelor program，no less than 600 words in English or Chinese；for the Master program，no less than 800 words in English or Chinese；for the Phd program，no less than 1000 words in English or Chinese;

8. Two recommendation letters in English or Chinese from two professors or associate professors (Compulsory for Master&PhD applicants).

9. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (The medical examinations must cover all the items listed and should be conducted after October 1st, 2024).

10. Applicants who are now in China must submit scan of Photocopy of Visa.

11. Applicants must submit scan of Certificate of Non-Criminal Records. It should be valid within six months prior to the application date.

12. Applicants who are still under the age of 18 as of September 1st, 2025 must submit the original guardian certificate（submit the original guardian certificate issued by the Tianjin District Notary Office, and the Guardian must be a permanent resident of Tianjin）.

13. Applicants who have immigrated to other countries or whose parent is a Chinese national should provide proof of time for naturalization, proof of renunciation of Chinese nationality and a visa record of recent four years for entry and exit to China . 

14. Applicants for Bachelor degree can submit award certificates; Applicants for Master and PhD degree can submit published papers or formal acceptance notification and relevant certificates for participating in the research project（Compulsory for PhD applicants）.

15.Other attachments: (Scholarship applicants should submit CSC application form with signature, applicants of School of Architecture are requested to submit  E-work Collection and Video Presentation etc.）
