Mechanical Engineering & Automation is a comprehensive discipline integrated with mechanical, electronics and information technology. It is the basis of machinery manufacturing, the mother of any processing industries and the essential power of continuous increase for national economy.

Teaching Obiective

Basic and professional knowledge and applied ability about general mechanical design, manufacture and automation and design of polymer materials processing machinery are trained in this major. The students will be cultivated to be senior engineering and technical personnel who can do works about design, manufacture, scientific research development, applied research, operational guidance and management trade etc in the field of mechanical engineering and automation.

Main Course

The main courses of this major are theoretical mechanics, material mechanics, mechanical principle, engineering materials & basis of machine, interchangeability & testing technique, mechanical design, mechatronics technology, mechanism manufacturing process, control theory for mechanical engineering, mechatronics transmission and control, metal cutting principle and cutting tool, NC machining technology, hydrostatic transmission, advanced manufacturing technology, non–traditional machining, design of rubber machinery, basis of polymer process.

Degree Award & Career

This major has the authorization of PhD degree, master’s degree and bachelor’s degree. After graduated, the students can get in graduate stage to pursue advanced studies; also can go to work at organization about mechanical manufacture, mechanical and electronic, polymer materials processing machinery etc. The job may concern design, manufacture, research and development, producing management, trade or sale etc. Some of the students can get in ALPS Company (Japan) realizing international employment. The students of this major have a broad career space and a great market need, so employment status of this major is good.

Founded in September, 1950, Qingdao University of Science and Technology (QUST) is located in the beautiful costal city of Qingdao known as the “Eastern Switzerland”, it was formerly known as Qingdao Institute of Chemical Technology. It got its present name in March of 2002 after the approval of the Education Ministry of China.

QUST has two campuses: the Sifang Campus has a space area of 300,000M 2 , and the Laoshan Campus, covering 300,000M 2 , situates in the beautiful Old Stone Man National Tourist Resort. QUST has a staff of more than 2000, with 675 of them holding professorship, and 23,443 students, 1025 of them are postgraduates or PhD students.

QUST has 7 PhD majors, 49 Master's degree majors, and 56 Bachelor's degree majors. Its majors around Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Applied Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Information and Controlling Engineering etc. have played important roles in China.

QUST always takes teaching as its core, and has educated more than 70,000 high-level professional talents for the society. It emphasizes scientific research as well and has created a “QUST Phenomenon”. In the past decade, QUST has won 13 State Technical Invention Prizes and State Science and Technology Progress Prizes. According to the ranking parade about the situation of gaining 3 State Technical Achievement Prizes among the state general universities conducted by the Central Educational Institute for the period of 1997 to 1999, QUST ranks 5th for State Technical Invention Prize, and 74 th for State Science and Technology Progress Prize. And it ranks 67th according to “The List of Universities of the Patent Application Figure”(1985-2000) issued by the Technical Developing Center of Education Ministry. And it ranks 46th according to record dissertations for SCI in 2005 and 100th for EI.

QUST develops rapidly in co-operation and exchange with foreign institutions. It has already established Sister University relationship with 24 universities of many countries like Russia, Germany, Korea, Canada, Australia, Japan, France, and USA. And it starts 10 joint-education programs with universities of Germany, Korea, France, USA, Estonia and Canada. The Sino-Germany Technical College co-established by Paderborn University (Germany) and QUST is considered as a model in both China and Germany.

Every year there are about 150 long-term foreign students and over 300 short-term ones studying in QUST. They are mainly from Korea, USA, Russia, Viet Nam, Germany, Japan, Pakistan, etc.

Every year, QUST employs about 30 foreign experts and teachers to teach English, German, Japanese, Russian, Korean, and academic courses. And it also sends teachers and students abroad teaching and studying in foreign universities.

Introduction

QUST hostel can accommodate 1 to 3 students in a room. All rooms are equipped with bed, mattress, pillow, blanket, desk, chair, central heater, water heaters, etc. Cupboard, internet line, telephone set, T.V and suitable lighting are also provided for both study and relaxation. There arecommon areas where students can play and mingle. A public kitchen is available for foreign students to cook their food. Upon the students arrival on campus, the students will be accommodated to the rooms allotted.    

QUST places a very high emphasis on the safety and security of students. The University and the Residences have rules and regulations regarding safety and security that cover an entire range of issues, and that are designed to protect every student in residence. These are to ensure that everyone can live together happily and safely.    QUST has different kinds of dining halls for International students to choose their favorite food.

3 Steps to Apply to a Chinese University

1. High school graduate or above, or have passed Grade Twelve (10+2)/FSc./A Level/WAEC or equivalent.

A passport-sized photo taken recently of the applicant.

3. Graduation certificate of high school
Graduation certificate should be in Chinese or English.If not, it should be translated into Chinese or English and be notarized.

4. Academic transcript of high school

5. English proficiency test certificate 
For example, IELTS or TOEFL, only for applicant whose native language is not English.
