Teaching Objective
These programs are designed to help students become linguistically and culturally competent in Mandarin Chinese. Placement test will be given to determine the appropriate course for you.
Chinese programs are offered at elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels with 10-15 students in each class. Language classes normally meet four hours daily, five days per week, including lectures, small group drills, conversation sessions, and individual practice sessions.
The curriculum teaches the four main language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. A language partner who is student in Shandong University of Science and Technology will be assigned upon request.
Elective courses in Taiji, Chinese Calligraphy, and Brush Painting will be available. Lectures on Chinese culture and topics relevant to modern China will also be scheduled.
Elementary Chinese Course
1. Training Levels: For students having not learned any Chinese or having learned Pinyin and mastered about 200 words
2. Teaching Objectives: After they conclude one school-year's study they are supposed to have a vocabulary of 1900-2100 words and complete the grammar study at the elementary phase.
3. Training Hours: One academic year contains two terms, the first term will last for 19 weeks. and the second term will last for 19 weeks, 38 weeks in total. There are 20 teaching hours per week, altogether 760 teaching hours in one academic year

Intermediate Chinese Course
1. Training Levels: For students having mastered about 1900-2100 Chinese words.
2. Teaching Objectives: After they conclude one school-year's study they are supposed to have a vocabulary of 4500 Chinese words or so and finish learning the grammar and lexical usage of the intermediate phase.
3. Training Hours: One academic year contains two terms. The first term will last for 19 weeks. And the second term will last for 19 weeks, 38 weeks in total. There are 20 teaching hours per week, altogether 760 teaching hours in one academic year.
Advanced Chinese Training Course
1. Training Levels: For students having mastered about 4500 Chinese words.
2. Teaching Objectives: After they conclude one academic year's study they are supposed to have a vocabulary of 8000 Chinese words or so and part of the grammar in the advanced phase.
3. Training Hours: One academic year contains two terms. The first term will last for 19 weeks. The second term will last for 19 weeks, 38 weeks in total. There are 20 teaching hours per week, altogether 836 teaching hours in one academic year.
Chinese tutoring
Once a week Chinese teachers will tutor students, to check their studying progress and answer their question. This tutoring provides the students with an opportunity to practice their Chinese in a relaxed environment and solve their problems on studying and campus life.
The University currently has an enrollment of 40000 full-time students, including 4510 master's and doctoral candidates and 8580 from the independent college. Among a faculty and staff of over 2970, there are 2000 full-time teachers including 257 professors and 411 associate professors, 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 5 foreign academicians of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, 9 Taishan Scholar Program professors, 3 candidates of the New Century State Talents Project, 3 candidates of the New Century Talents Supporting Project of the Ministry of Education, 6 young and middle-aged state-level experts with outstanding contributions, 58 teaching staff enjoying special state government subsidies, 6 provincial-level young or middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions, 37 provincial/ministerial level topnotch professionals, and 124 supervisors of doctoral candidates.
There are 8 National Teachers of Excellence, 19 Provincial Teachers of Excellence and 5 Provincial Noted Teachers; 5 feature specialties and 1 experiment teaching demonstrative center backed by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance, 3 provincial prestige specialties under construction and 5 provincial feature specialties under construction; 2 national quality course and 17 provincial quality courses constructed. The University won 2 second-class awards of the National Teaching Achievements and 31 awards of the Provincial Teaching Achievements.
The University has cultivated over 100,000 personnel so far and the employment rates of its graduates stand at the top among universities and colleges in Shandong Province.The university was placed in Category A in the national undergraduate programs teaching evaluation conducted by the State Education Ministry in 2007.The University is noted for its strengths in basic and applied research and scientific development owing to its multidisciplinary features. It boasts a solid academic foundation and advantages in Mining Engineering, Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology, Geological Resources and Engineering, Control Theory and Control Engineering, Computer Software and Theory, Geotechnical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, and Mechanical Design and Theory. The University now houses 80 research institutes in such domains as engineering, technology, humanities and social sciences. From 2001 to 2007, the University has undertaken 2896 research projects, including 131 state-level ones from the 863 Project (National Hi-tech Research and Development Program), the 973 Project (National Basic Research Development Program), State Key Sci-tech Projects, National Pillar Sci-tech Programs in the 11th Five-year Plan Period, National Natural Sciences Fund key projects, National Outstanding Youth Foundation projects, key international co-operative projects of National Natural Sciences Fund, state key international co-operative projects, and inter-governmental sci-tech co-operative projects; 2346 horizontal projects with a total of research fund 609.49 million RMB. It has published 10643 papers of which 900 were collected by SCI, EI and ISTP, and 581 monographs. 286 research projects were authenticated and 57 patents obtained;
6 projects won state-level scientific awards and 168 projects won provincial ones; from 2004 to 2008, the scientific research funds exceeded 100 million RMB for three successive years and in 2008 the funds totaled 181.87 million RMB.The University actively participates international exchanges and cooperation with a view to promoting internationalization of education. It has established cooperative relationship with 77 higher learning institutions and research institutes in 17 countries including the USA, Japan, Germany, Russia, France, etc., and over 50 scientific and technological cooperative projects have been initiated. Now much headway has been made in the promotion of cultural exchanges, faculty exchanges, sabbatical training and joint postgraduate programs. Its international students come from countries such as Japan, Russia, the USA, France, the Republic Korea, Germany, Mongolia and Pakistan. To date, the University has set up 6 Sino-foreign joint laboratories. The University hosts or sponsors large-scale international academic conferences annually and more than 20 faculty are members of various international academic institutions.
Accommodation and Service
All the international students can live in the International Students Apartment on Qingdao campus. There are two types of room: single room and two-bed room. The single room is equipped with the independent toilet, air-conditioning, desk and chair, wardrobe , laundry and bedding items. The double room is equipped with the public toilet, air-conditioning, desk and chair, wardrobe and bedding items.

Dining in Campus
International students can both dine in the campus canteen and cook meal in dormitory kitchen. The expenses of food is approximately 600 CNY per month.
